So, I just deleted Mount and Blade from my computer.

Mount and Blade isn't a bad game, its actually an amazing game. Too amazing. far too amazing to keep around in easy reach. Normally when I get a new and really good game I play it exclusively for a month and then it fades into my standard rotation. Mount and Blade has been a different story. i got the game about two months ago and didn't stop playing until the uninstall. I wasn't missing work or skipping IRL social stuff but it was keeping me up at night fairly consistently. Since being constantly sleep deprived doesn't help one get motivated for that oh so important job hunt I pulled the plug.

This is the first time I've ever had to do this and I'm wondering if anyone else has and if so what game made them do it.

Replace "uninstall" with "unsubscribe" and yeah, I've been there. WoW fucked my grades up pretty bad sophomore year of college.

first title that springs to mind is Hearthstone, because it was getting too frustrating to get kicked around the playing field by other people's credit cards.

And I had to put away God of War III for a bit because i was getting... "moments" from the elevator sequence at the end.

Anyone who says Hearthstone isn't pay-to-win is kidding themselves. The least they could do is make a card trading system or, I don't know, make it so you get a decent amount of packs through normal gameplay. The grind is horrible.

Kinda reminds me of Yugioh, which basically came down to who had the best cards. At least in MtG you can make killer budget decks in most formats.

My Achilles's Heel is strategy games. Particularly Europa Universalis IV. I've sunk more time on that than I care to admit. I haven't un-installed any games because of the ill effects it was having on my life though.

At least I've never really gotten 'addicted' to a MMO, since I've heard some horror stories about MMO addicts.

OT: I like to think however that games aren't always the root cause of 'game addiction', it's just a symptom of a problem in a person's life. Some people turn to alcohol to ease pain, other people turn to games.

One more vote for World of Warcraft here. Freshman year of college I had to pull the plug on that beast due to my slipping grades. Back in High School I was notorious (and my family continues to remind me of this fact) for letting that game control much more of my time than I would be comfortable admitting.

I haven't really played much of any MMO since.

Another for WoW. This was literally all I played for a number of years straight. I was there at launch and I went till the end of Burning Crusade. How obsessed was I with this game? Well when I moved into a small house with my brother who was going to the same college as me, he would suck up time on my computer playing online poker at a free poker site. Well this cut into my WoW time and that just was unacceptable. The remedy? I went out an bought him GTA: San Andres specifically to get him hooked on that game so that I could feed my addiction to my game.

But I eventually got burnt out due to 3 disbanded guilds worth of MASSIVE drama, and the realization that all the epic, badass gear that I had to grind countless raids to get..........would all be made absolutely obsolete by quest rewards from the first few quests in Lich King. As such I could no longer justify the expense and pulled the plug.

Ohhhh and let me tell you about a little game called World of Tanks. This game I didn't quit because I was too addicted to it, this game I quit because of pure, unadulterated rage.

While I had many problems that led to my ultimate rage-quit of that game (and it was a pretty epic Rage-Quit if I do say so myself...I hadn't raged that hard at a game for a good long time before it, and I haven't raged that hard at a game since), the one that pissed me off the most was how the game straight-up lies to you. One of the loading screens tells you what the various cross-hair colors mean. Clear = No Target/No Chance of Penetration for Damage. Yellow = 50% Chance that your shot will actually penetrate and do damage. Red = 100% Chance that your shot will penetrate and do damage.

Why then can I fire 7 shots at someone with a red crosshair and hear each time "It bounced right off them, sir." "We didn't penetrate." "We didn't even scratch them." "It bounced right off them, sir." "It bounced right off the, sir." "It fucking bounced right the fuck off them, sir!" "HA! Go fuck yourself, sir!"

Again, that wasn't the only reason I raged at that game, but it was certainly the primary culprit. And when you rage so hard at a game that for the next few days your face is covered in countless little red splotches and dots, that's when it's time to call it quits and never play that game again.

Not yet. I haven't had a problem with gaming massively affecting my grades or taking a toll on my health/sanity yet.

Keyword being yet. It'll happen eventually. I did spend about 45-50 hours playing Civilization V in a span of 3 days when I bought it in the Steam winter sale, though. Fortunately, the compulsive need to play it seems to have petered out just in time for when classes start again.

I've also spent thousands of hours on MMOs (Phantasy Star Online 2 and FFXIV:ARR specifically). Those probably have negatively affected my grades, but not in a significant enough manner to get me to stop.

Kinda althought it wasn't a PC game. I became too obsess with Animal Crossing to the point that I had a routine (wake up, collect fruit and fossil, sell it and talked to the villgers at leat once) but I wasn't having fun.

I pretty much lose it when one of the villgers leave so I take it upon myself to leave the game and delete it forever.

I did. Although it wasn't cause of "I'm spending waaay too much time over it" reason, but more like "This trainwerck isn't worth getting stressed over it" thing.

Shit, I voted no and only realised I had an answer as I sent the vote.

Mine would be League Of Legends. When I was in uni, I was in a household of LoL fans including me. While it didn't take over my life as bad as my housemates, I'm glad I nipped that in the bud.

Funny enough, the catalyst for me quitting was a bad run-in with an abrasive Brazilian Morderkaiser. So in a way, I thank that confrontational asshole.

Currently, I'm thinking about doing it with Hearthstone. I abhor paying-to-win and you can guess that doesn't do much to help my win-rate. Or my blood pressure. I am so tired of getting my arse kicked by cards that out-class mine in every single way or have random effects somehow always help my opponent instead of me.

And yet... I can't stop bloody playing!

Yeah, I pretend I'm above CoD like most people but I got addicted to the multiplayer. Luckily it's still shit enough to be fed up with it's bullshit, and I think I broke it for good last time. For the first time I played local multiplayer on one system and still died due to what I assumed was lag or lag comp. It's just shitty. But I still love the hit marker sound and seeing +100 always makes me feel good.

But I made the mistake with MW2 twice, and Blops once and blops 2 once. Blops 2 broke it for me.

Call of Duty. Between late-2007 and early-2010, when I wasnt playing Halo, I was playing CoD. It got to the point where all CoD was doing was getting me angry, and I spent a lot of time just shouting at the game. Any joy was replaced by anger, yet I still played the game so much because it was just so addictive. Eventually I decided to sell the games and move on with my life. Since then, the only Call of Duty game that I have owned has been WaW, and that is only because I enjoy a good game of zombies every now and again. And that is how MW2 ruined a franchise for me.

They should really add a Pauper type format for Hearthstone.

OT: In Highschool I had to uninstall Left4Dead just because I was getting into crunch time to make myself look even somewhat palatable to a college (Thank you Arizona acceptance rate).

Nope. I can restrain myself perfectly well.
For example months back I was doing nothing but strategy... than I said "I need to play some JRPGs" and boom I was now playing them... not difficult.

Yugioh isn't bad as it reputation implies on that front. I've won small tournaments against cookie cutter top tier decks using cheap "novelty" decks (Normal, low level normal, Skull Servant). The less time since the new ban list and getting lucky help of course, that and always being ready for your opponents while they'll be confused on why anyone would run a deck like that.
Of course it varies depending on the deck, opponent, yourself, and whatever is in at the time.

To be fair I haven't play Yugioh since... 2002ish? I am sure it's changed immeasurably since then. The only impression I have of modern Yugioh is commentary from MtG players, and I am sure you know how that goes XD

Couple of times I had to take off Counter-strike while at university. Also, Diablo II, I actually deleted my lvl50 Paladin and 2 other lvl30+ characters to pull myself away from it permanently. Despite the initial depression, it worked pretty well. I've never been as hooked on any one game since, the closest being Minecraft, but I think I'm just too busy to get that sunk into any one game when there are so many fantastic ones out there just waiting to be explored.
