Hey guys I know this topic is probably pretty old, but I finally got myself a gaming rig and I've wanted to play D3 ever since it came out. I tried the starter edition and I'm liking the game so far. however after reading up reviews and comments regarding the game I'm having mixed feelings.

There are a lot of people complaining about the whole Real-Money-Auction-House,others say that it's easy from normal to hell then inferno pretty much forces you to buy items from the RMAH.

Then there's the whole disclaimer regarding items getting nerfed even if you buy them from the RMAH so that's a bit of a turn off but I guess it's understandable in order to balance the game.

My question to those who've bought it, do you like it still? I want a game with some longevity but I hear from others even multiplayer is rather redundant because as more people join, the less MF you have based on how much MF everyone else has...

It's a lot of stuff to take in for a game and it makes me wonder if I should spend 60$ on it or just spend the 60 on something else like Dragon Age 2 (totally different game I know), or Torchlight 2, or Path of Exile.

Thanks

The crafting should make it - at least in theory - possible to complete Inferno without RMAH. I assume it would take a lot of time investement though.

Very outdated information, I'm afraid. There is no penalty to joining with others - especially no MF one -, apart from the fact that most groups steamroll Inferno with ease. With the game being out for 4 or more months, most people have good to great gear and only few champion packs are a challenge.

In my opinion, Diablo is worth its money. I have spent 160 hours on it and am long from being done. The skill system is great fun and the recent changes improved the game a lot. Blizzard will continue and add to the game in the future, so it's only going to get better.

A special mention towards the Monster Powers levels. This system allows you to "buff" the monsters in exchange for greater loot and faster experience. Since you can turn on MP even while levelling, it can make the early levels a lot more intense and interesting.

Overall, I have been disappointed with the atmosphere and story of D3, but the gameplay is much better than I expected. I'm not sure, whether it's the best Diablo game, but it's the one I have played the most.

While I did liked it at first but these days I despise it. Yes it was fun to start of with but once you finished normal and playing hard mode and more, it just become a bored to replay the same story over and over. At that point it just become a total grindhouse for better loots due to not having any real endgame. I haven't even mention the jarring moments in the story!

I suppose the alternative game to get is Touchlight 2 but I have not played that game yet.

I never played D3 myself so I don't know if what I say here even matters, but my friend who does own the game makes the very same complaints that pretty much everyone does. Yeah its a decent game but it could be SO much better than it actually is. It's good at first but gets old really fast. No reason to play more than one of any class, no mods, RMAH, etc.

I do however own Torchlight 2 and Dragon Age 2. (both games are $20 not $60 if you did not know)I can say without a doubt that Torchlight 2 is very good. (I haven't played Dragon Age 2 yet but I plan to once I finish Dragon Age Origins) Torchlight 2 is taking everything that people loved from Diablo 2 and making it even better.

Play the game however you want, mod it to heck. They'll even provide many of the tools they used to create the game for free so you can do just that, unlike D3.

The difficulty has something for everyone. You don't have to beat a lower mode to unlock a higher one, just start in the higher one! Then run newgame+ when you finish and the game is even harder.

Making a bunch of 1 class to try out various builds is something you'll actually want to do.

You do not have to be online to play if you choose not to be, unlike D3

Diablo 3 is a fun, visceral experience. Monsters pop like pinatas, blood and gore fly everywhere, you're punting goblins off cliffs, there's a tremendous sense of impact and brutality. It's also not a very good GAME. The mechanics are questionable, and much has been written about the quality of the loot. It feels very anachronistic, but they somehow managed to capture many of the failings of the genre and few of the merits. It's an odd beast.

Torchlight 2 gets the looting and mechanics perfect, but it's nowhere near the spectacle Diablo 3 is, and it's equally anachronistic. Frankly, the isometric ARPG feels like a niche genre whose best years have come and gone. They're like treadmill MMOs with all the frippery stripped away and only the treadmill left.

It's a good game for playing through the campaign once, but it doesn't score high on longevity. The graphics are nice, the story decent, there are some good bossfights - but it's basically the same for every playthrough. You need better gear and biggger numbers on subsequent difficulty levels but it doesn't change the fundamentals and it doesn't become harder to play.

Because of the auction hall it isn't even worth it for the grinding gameplay. Good gear is plentiful and easy to come by on the gold AH which takes away most of the fun of finding gear.

I don't know how much longevity Torchlight 2 has, I have only played it occasionally. But it does seem to have more customization and it doesn't lock the player into a preset difficulty level. Of course it's also more affordable.

Dragon Age 2 is a game I wouldn't recommend but thats a topic that tend to result in flamewars. ;-) For longevity you might consider Dragon Age:Origins since it's a bigger game. And you can probably get a ton of extras for free because of its age. DA:O is a decent RPG with design remniscent of the old Black Isle games.

Borderlands 1 or 2 are other options that can give you a lot of gameplay with looting aspects. Both are solid game experiences.

Well, I haven't played any Diablo 3 nor do I plan to (no raging or RMAH/Blizzard/whatever bashing, actually) but I've had great fun with Torchlight 2 and as far as I'm concerned, I'll continue having fun. And it's like 20$ so, take that as you will.

It's pretty trendy to hate on Diablo III, partly down to Blizzards shady business practices and partly because it has the temerity to move the genre forwards. When it comes down to it, particularly with the introduction of Monster Levels it's actually a really good game, thus far in fact my Game of the Year (more to do with lack of competition than anything else but still...)

With infinite access to respecs on the fly and a huge number of abilities flooding forward on every level the game is very compelling, and more to the point a great deal of fun. The loot system is weak and this means it will never be as addictive as the previous titles but minute to minute you are making far more interesting choices.

Just get Torchlight 2 instead, its better and costs a lot less. Diablo 3 is good but it becomes very stale and boring very quickly.

I put yes I liked it but it didn't have much longevity. Me and my friend beat it once and got bored. Though there is a free-to-play arpg like diablo, called Path of Exile that is coming out sometime next year and the open beta is happening late this year. It was a lot of fun when I played the open weekend 10x more fun than d3, and it was free!

i bought it. played my barbarian to level 52 or 53 then gave up. there is virtually no incentive to keep playing for "better" items when you can get almost everything you need on the AH. i never liked Diablo2 so i don't any nostalgia for it, but many players will complain loudly and long about how much better is was than diablo 3.

if you are looking for a game with plenty of action and things to kill then get it. it takes no mental effort to simply kill anything that gets in your way -- which is somewhat cathartic. then again, if that is what you are looking for get borderlands 2 which offers the same amount of killing in a much more interesting environment.

It's hard to say really, I got to lvl 60 and almost cleared act 1 on inferno before I was absolutely fed up with it (kept playing beyond nightmare because my friends said it would be worth it and fun, it wasn't).

About RMAH or crafting being necessary to beat inferno, no... It wasn't before content was nerfed so it won't be now. My friends tell me, while inferno certainly could be brutal at times it was by no means impossible to get through it (though certain elite packs simply were not doable with their setup), and 3 (together) of them beat it after a few weeks, and one of them (who's still playing a lot) said it's become way way easier now.

I like it.

Of course none of this matters. The only important thing is if you have fun playing the game. Screw everyone else's opinion, its your money and your experience. People are going to say its great or it sucks and its all based on their opinions which have nothing to do with how you are going to feel.
