Given how many atheist/agnostic/non-Christians are on the site, I'm not entirely sure that I'll get a decent response, but I'm going for it anyway (I know some people who participate in Christmas anyways, regardless of religious beliefs). My input is yes, I totally ate up the Santa thing. Great part of my childhood, with so many fun memories.

When I was a kid, sure, who didn't?

But as you get older, you figure it out on your own that he isn't real.

One thing that sucks about growing up.

YES! I waited under the tree with my BB gun every Christmas, 5 years ago I shot my step-dad in the stomach and I stopped believing.

I'm constitutionally incapable of believing in things without actual experience/evidence. Granted, when I was a kid, I was a manipulative little twit so I occasionally saw the value in being SEEN to believe in Santa. But it was never more than a game I played.

No. I am, and likely always will be, what some would describe as a miserable bastard.

Was a fun game though.

Yes, I did. Didn't pretty much everybody?
My sister and I compared writing samples from our parents and the note that showed up on the table Christmas morning.
Just made everything seem more....magical I guess.
Fun while it lasted.

Me, parents straight up told me he wasn't real, still told me the tooth fairy was though, it was strange now that I think of it.

It was a rhetorical question.

I'm sure some people had buzzkills for parents.

Of-course, up until I was about seven or eight. As far as I know my little sister still believes in him.

Anyone who says no in the poll is lying or mistaken unless their parents never pretended that Santa was real since younger children are programmed to pretty much unconditionally accept whatever their parents teach them, no exceptions.

They really weren't though, my mother is from Puerto Rico, so they didn't have Santa, but she still let me and my brother believe in the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, all that shit.

Yeah, but they're like the B-movie holiday mascots.

They're not big hitters like Santa.

This sums it up right here. Regardless of the fact that he's not a real entity, he's just as real as the concepts of love, hope, faith, and all those things. He embodies good will, loving you fellow man, charity, and the power kindness can have on people. If he's not real, then neither is love (And let's face it, even if love is just a biological function of the brain, it's still real).
