First of, its not Bioshock 3, its Bioshock: Infinite

and second

All those 3's are because our franchises are getting finished. New ones will sprout up soon.

well for the most part i know what i'm getting with those titles, in which most of those i don't care for but a few of them i am deathly excited for, so instead of wasting money on something i have no idea on i can spend my money knowing i'm going to enjoy something

My question is how is it Battlefield 3. We have had Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2, and Battlefield 2142 (Plus Battlefield Heroes if you count that).
Also, maybe all the game companies saw the money in sequels and started making them at the same time.

Some good, some bad. It'll be a shame to see Mass Effect and Gears go, but I cant' wait to see what Epic and Bioware have in store for us next.

I figure if they call it "This is the third time we made a game called "Battlefield" would be a bit rough to advertise. lol Good call tho

Established franchises is where the big money is at. It's why something doesn't have to be phenomenal to warrant a sequel, or in some cases, even be relevant anymore. (Ohai The Darkness 2, where the fuck have you been for the last decade since the original's release at the launch of the Xbox 360?)

While i understand investors want to make safe bets, i'm getting very sick of sequels. I'd like to see some new ideas. They don't have to be innovative, but they at least have to be new. This is why i like games like Alpha Protocol. They may be buggy, ugly messes but at least they have the balls to try something new. After all, beyond the Splinter Cell franchise (i'm not counting the abortion that was Conviction. Tom Cruise does not belong in a Splinter Cell game) what other current gen espionage game is there? It's also why i buy extremely oddball games from odd indie developers. I'm one of the few people who actually bought, played and completed Venetica, after all. I'm willing to tough it out for the sake of seeking new ideas and a fresh premise.

GTA method of sequels. They'll do what they damn well please.

Skyrim is actually #5, you've totally forgotten about Arena and Daggerfall. Those two are old as shit though so it's an understandable mistake.

But yeah, that did seem kind of odd, but there's always 3's going on. Just an unusually large number of not shitty ones lately.

technically, skyrim is elder scrolls 5, where oblivion was elder scrolls 4... morrind was number 3

and this would be pretty much the 4th AC game

I think I would like to see new titles myself. I love some of the older titles, but creativity tends to dwindle off as they get more incarnations.

Know what 3's we'll never see?

Portal 3
Left 4 Dead 3
Half-Life 2 Episode 3
Team Fortress 3

...Need I go on?

I'd prefer new titles, really; hoping this will end most of these trilogies, and spawn something new. And that new franchise better not be another CoD-clone.

To be fair, Street Fighter is the king of sequal fuck ups. How the hell is SFII its own series?

Because it's a direct sequel to Battlefield 2.

OT: This just happened with all the movie franchises a while ago. They just come in cycles, all the developer launch a lot of new IPs at the same time so they mostly end at the same time, and trilogies make sense.

I would like to know your reasoning behind this.

I'll give you all of the ones you listed I guess, as I don't really feel like looking it up and they look right, but Oblivion being 3? You mean Skyrim, cause that's 5. You mean 3rd with modern graphics? Like 3rd since it boomed? It's a stretch. Assassins Creed? Technically it's the fourth game that's coming out, and it's not labelled 3, so I wouldn't count it. Deus Ex? Yeah, that's a third. BioShock, that's a third as well. There's a new Super Street Fighter? You mean the 3DS game? ehhh... If you count that then your Assassin's Creed claim is blown WAY out of the window.

I don't mind squeals, but would it kill them to think of a creative title?

Games like Team Fortress 2, where there is no real plot or story, I get just adding a number to, but if the game is supposed to have plot and the such, they should really spend the extra minute to think of a quality title.
