After reading about Mass Effect 3 having multiplayer, I started thinking about what it would be like for a single player series to suddenly add multiplayer. Then I remembered that MGS4 has a multiplayer mode.

After finishing the story mode for the first time (when the game was first released), I went to the multiplayer screen and it promptly told me that in addition to my PSN account, I needed to sign up for some Konami account. Well, I gave that the finger and never came close to trying it ever again.

But I'm sure someone played it. Is it any good? What did you think of it? Was it worth their time developing?

MGS4 had a multiplayer mode? Huh, didn't realise. Well I'm not going to loose sleep over it.

Really? How did it work?
Like the first act with lots of sneaking? Like the second act with tons of shooting? Or like the entire rest of the game watching pre-rendered people do everything for you?

It was ok except for the lack of players, like it would take 5 hours for the thing to find a room with a single match in it,and finding that match is another 2 hours then by the time you get there, the game is already over.

Yeah, it was fantastic on of the best multiplayer experiences I have played in a long time (when you actually got into a well balanced match where nobody spawn-camped).

The only downside was the horrible way it made you sign in and the way it updated which ended up taking me +6 hours.

It had potential but was way too focused on taking my money, and the patches took ages to download. Kinda spoiled the game.

Some of the game modes were awesome.
The capture the squeaky toys (can't remember real name) mode was class. One team was armed with normal weapons and were tasked with defending two toys. The other team were armed with non-lethal weapons but had stealth suits (but you could see their shadows, footprints, their tranq guns and dust they kick up when runing). When one of the invisibles was shot their entire team would become visible for a while.

It was really tense and one of my favourite online games.

There was a multiplayer?

Now you come to mention it a multiplayer feature does sound vaguely familiar but from the sounds of it,not worth the time.

Nope.

Either I can't update it, or the updates are so fucking big it takes longer than an hour to download.

Yeah, MGS4's multiplayer doesn't look good enough for me to wait that long.

It's kinda cool, but it has one of the steepest learning curve's known to man.

The Newbies get a really hard time in that game.

I tried to play it... however, this was about 6 months after it was released (I didn't have an internet connection in my living room when I first got MGS4), and apparently no one in Australia was playing it. Also, I really, really hated the multiple log-ins and the only matches I ever managed to be able to join were filled with players who only spoke Spanish.

So no. I did not have a very fun time.

Yep I played it, it was alright nothing too special. The Sons of the Patriots system was an interesting and helpful during team matches but almost useless for free for all. My favorite match type was when two teams hunted for Snake and Metal Gear mk.2. I enjoyed most of the maps; they were large, well layed out and balanced (other than the spawn camping). I stoped playing when they introduced the dlc, and it took forever to download the patch.

...metal gear 4 had multiplayer? Well even if I did know I would have ignored it. I never thought, while playing Solid or, Sons of Liberty, that the experience would be improved by playing with other people.

Yes, and I'd still be playing it if doing so didn't result in me being blocked from my university's ISP. It was a pain in the ass to get into, but once I did, it was pretty damn fun. Very few gaming experiences compare to snaring an enemy via tactical use of pornography.

I tried to play once, it wouldn't let me in. I can't remember if it was loading, looking for other players, or whatever, but I was sitting there for half an hour with no luck. If I had to guess I'd say it would be either your typical deathmatch/capture a thing/something weird modes, but with a MGS paintjob or a street-fighter-type-thing as seen
in the final fistfight with Liquid/Ocelot, but with other noteworthy characters to choose from. Watching Otacon swordfight Rosemary was funny in MGS 2's demo theater, (substance version) but I would've liked to act it out with bare fists, given the chance. The Fear Vs. Vamp might be cool too, but that's asking for a lousy spinoff.
