as always, theres a lot of talk about preowned games and how they affect the industry, and tho I've always been more on the side of the right to trade-in games, i only now realize, i don't ever buy pre-owned games. About the only time I ever buy preowned games is if the game i want is old or hard to find, and I can't find a new copy.

This makes me start to feel, its not the industry thats the enemy. But i also often lend/share games with friends, and enjoy doing so. I now kinda feel like the real enemy here is gamestop. I feel like i don't care about having this service for buying used games, I don't care about that unless the game i want is old. But I still want to be able to share games with friends.. Frankly, i would rather just have big stores like gamestop not selling used new games than i would want the current trend of punishing users to make sure people buy new games. (but then again, this feeling is probably just because I don't personally take advantage of the used games for sale,)

I remember when pre-owned prices where not just a couple of £ off the new price here in the UK. Seems like you can only get a good deal on really old (or badly selling) games anymore. It's simply not worth it to me. I always buy new now.

During the PS2 era when I was at school. I used to trade in all the time due to a lack of income and I would not have played half the games I did if trade in's had not existed. So I am by no means against it, it just no longer represents a good deal to me anymore.

Honestly, the industry is the enemy for having planted the seed that lead to this thread. Of course used games are a good thing. I have no sympathy for any industry that cries about its own used market; we decided this about a hundred years ago, when the right of first sale was established.

If it's a game I seriously have waited months for then it's a day of release purchase, but if it's a game I'm not sure about, then yeph pre owned all the way.

I voted no since the only games I'll buy used are from years back in the previous console generations.

I don't consider a $5 saving worth it for a second hand copy.

Last time I bought Pre-Owned was at a Last Stop CD Shop for Super Mario Sunshine, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and Need For Speed: Underground. I spent A LOT of time with those games. Lately though, no.

£60 for preowned for wait a few months and play it for £20...no real competition really.

As for Extra credit's plan for games to have half on the disc and half as DLC do that the developers get something from everyone who ever owns the game, forget that idea. Terry Pratchett keeps most second hand book shops open (at least in the UK) and never sees any money from all those second hand sales, same with films, why are games developers so special?

If "the medium" wants to be taken seriously, then maybe "the medium" shouldn't be pillocks.

It really depends. I have a job, and I choose to support developers of software titles that I am interested in. So I buy those titles new, and generally on release like a good little consumer.

Am I going to buy this months remake of a remakes remake new on release? Heck no. If I MUST buy that title, for some reason like a gathering of guitar hero, then it will be purchased at the cheapest price possible.

I'm a PC-only gamer, so pre-owned isn't really an option. However if it were an option I'd only buy pre-owned if it was at least 50% less than buying it new, I just don't see the attraction of second-hand stuff for 5 or 10 euros less than new.

I do, but I wait for the good deals. I also sometimes get new copies for cheaper/better quality than the used. I bought Arkham Asylum new for about 17 bucks when Gamestop wanted around the same for a beat up copy without a proper case.

I also got InFamous, MGS4, and Fallout 3 for new...about 10 bucks each during Black Friday.

I go where the deals are. Usually they aren't at Gamestop though XD

gotta loved them shiny boxes :)

something is just not nearly as satisfying buying a used game with the box all dirty, the disk scratched and the manual possibly missing, as it is buying a brand new game all shiny and special-like

In general I only buy pre-owned if:
I cant find a new copy.
Its an older game and the retailers still want full price as if it was just released (I mean a 2 year old game for 50 euro?)
Its a very old game which cant be found anywhere.
Its a game I dont really care/know about but is cheap and might be a little entertaining.

Other than that, its retailers/steam so the developers get some of my cash

I used to buy nothing but pre-owned games because the prices in Sweden are really high. Since I discovered a very cheap site in the UK(at least compared to here, don't know the UKs regular prices) with free shipping I've only bought new games. <3

A fair few of my games are preowned because it's just cheaper. Also, the only games I seem to find that aren't preowned are new releases.

No, I do not. I buy everything I can from Steam. If I'm getting a console game, I generally buy it new. I simply don't want to give my money to Gamestop.

Depends. If it's a company I want to support, I'll buy new. However, if I'm replacing a broken copy or buying from a company I don't like, used it is.

I tried to buy Dead Space 2 new, but my mom hated it so much I had to pay for it myself, EA, and I could only afford it used.
