Simple poll. If so why, if not, why not?

I personally don't drink, it is probably at least partially a rebellion against Australian culture, but mostly I don't think I would enjoy it and I would likely become addicted to it.
Edit: Oh, and money, I don't want to spend it all on drinks. I'm also not a fan of making a fool of myself, and I'd imagine if I were intoxicated I would.

There's also something illogical about me not doing it that I can't quite put my finger on... I guess I just find the thought of doing it repulsive.

Anyway, your thoughts?

I have some drinks about 2 times a year, in which I get just buzzed enough to giggle and loosen up.
It's great to unwind and have fun with my friends.

I've got nothing against people who can use it responsibly and enjoy doing so, but
for myself I don't like the taste, don't like the way it feels in my throat & stomach
& *definitely* don't like the way it makes me feel mentally.

Yes!

I knock down a fair few drinks every second weekend or so. I think it is good fun and is a nice way to unwind. It's a brilliant way to socialise with friends. I also find being tipsy clarifies my thought and allows me to enter a mindset where I'm more honest about my goals in life. Sounds crazy, but it be true.

Sure, why not? It feels good the few times I do choose to partake in it and it feels bad enough in excess to sober me up for a month. Compared to many others, I have a healthy relationship with alcohol.

Not nearly as much as I used to, but I do drink. Probably fair to say I was drawing near to alcoholism before I started to cut back on it, one bad experience was enough to make me give it way more scrutiny. On the other hand, I'm bloody well not going to live the rest of my life in fear of some funny-tasting drink that makes my head feel weird, so I set about the business of finding a happy medium and I'm going to be setting up camp there for the foreseeable future.

Yup, and, as a matter of fact, I'm having one now.

Irish Whiskey, neat of course.

I don't drink to get drunk since I think getting drunk is kinda stupid, and isn't worth the hangover in the morning. I've done it twice just to see what would happen and to see if anything changed, and never again.

I have a drink just about every night to unwind and relax, but there are times where I don't want one and just want to drink juice or something. My family has a history of alcoholism, so I'm super paranoid about my alcohol intake and I make sure that it doesn't get anywhere near that.

Yes.

How much I drink depends. Lately I've been staying in most nights, might drink a 40 or a bottle of wine once every week or two, might not. If I'm going out or working 3-4 nights a week, I'll prolly drink 3-4 nights a week. (Indie music shows--drinking/smoking on the job is normal, if not slightly encouraged.)

I def had a problem with it a few years ago (hell, I nearly died one time,) but it's fine now. Desire rather than compulsion.

I'm an Australian and I'm a university student yet I never have, nor ever will drink alcohol.

This may or may not be a suprise but I'm seen as exceptionally weird by my peers for not drinking.
me and you both
i don't think the benefits of alcohol out weigh the negatives. i'll have a couple of drinks with the old man every now and again but for the most part i wont touch the stuff
i really don't like the beer o'clock culture in australia

If someone did that to me I would be enraged. Quite possibly more angry than I have ever been.

Not any more.

I used to drink WAY too much. I wasn't an alcoholic, it turns out (to my surprise). I just drank till I got drunk--every single day and night (when I wasn't at work) for years and years out of...habit.

Last year I had to quit drinking altogether. I had super-high blood pressure and the nurse told me to get it lower NOW or I ran the risk of having a stroke or heart attack at any moment. She suggested blood pressure medicine, but I couldn't afford that and wouldn't have if I could. I don't like drugs.

It turns out that drinking makes my blood pressure sky rocket, soooooo that was it. Stop drinking--or die.

I quit.

And surprisingly easily.

I prefer sobriety. No more headaches or cotton mouth. I sleep better. I have some money now. Everything is going better.

I do. I love beer enough that I not only drink it, but got hooked on homebrewing a few years back. Lovely hobby and if I survive the apocalypse I know I'll have at least one worthwhile skill.

I've slowed down on hard liquor a lot from when I was in my twenties but I still do shots from time to time. Like tonight, f'rex. *hic*

Yes I do. I try to limit it to the weekends because its not fun going to work and working a whole day feeling like shit. I occasionally drink in the week and generally regret it the next day. Plus I do feel sharper and better rested if I don't drink, I would give it up completely but I do like de stressing with a few beers.

You bet your ass. I'll drink whenever I can get my hands on the stuff, but since I'm not the most outgoing type these situations are pretty infrequent, so it's kept within moderation. Not so much last year, I went into a bit of excess there, but now I think I'm back to a reasonable amount of units.

I drink when I go out. Never at home or by myself.

In my group of friends I'm also clearly the biggest light-weight, I drink on average half of what my friends do. (ie. 1 girly for every pint they drink)
