Depends on the food. Bread a day over is probably a more dangerous bet than pasta day over. Also, bread lasts long in the freezer.

Look at it. Green or fuzzy? If yes, throw it away. If no, smell it. Smells weird? If yes, throw it away. If no, taste it. Tastes funny? If yes, throw it away. If no, eat.

Food companies are scared people will get sick and sue them, so they put the expiration date ridiculously early. Lots of food is still perfectly good after it's expired (within limits of course).

You missed a step. Look at it. Green or fuzzy? Can I cut the fuzzy bit off?

True, true. Lemme guess, you're also familiar with the 'I'm a poor university student, I can't afford to throw anything even remotely edible away'-mindset?

I will eat just about anything as long as the taste alone does not make me want to vomit.
I once got sick for an afternoon for eating some meat with some fuzz on it. And I'd do it again.
I just don't give a fuck, yo.

Indeed, I also like a really good cheese and if you don't cut the fuzzy bit off, you always have to throw it away or just eat cheese for a week.

I'm picky as hell eating food that's out of date, that stuff should not be in my body.
As for drink, I couldn't care less. Sealed of liquids don't grow mould at first opportunity as far as I see it.

I have eaten a box of two year old Nerds.. And my dad has fed me moldy bread (I was like four like I was gonna say no to food.) So yeah. If it tastes alright I'm game.

Nope, despite being a student I prefer caution to regret. In more dire financial straits I'd perhaps be less picky with some products though.

Depends. If it's highly perishable (vegetables, meat, dairy products) then no. Otherwise, if it still looks and smells good, it's fine with me.

If there's no obvious sign of it being off, and a small bit tastes fine, why not?

This is basically how I decide. Some stuff you can just assume it'll still be good for a while. Vegetables you can tell if you should eat them or not fairly easily, you won't want to eat them once they go bad anyway. And I've had some bad experiences with milk that's gone bad so I don't trust it past expiration dates. Meat maybe I'll let slide and just make sure to cook it really well.

If it doesn't smell funny. Mostly the expired label is really just a date for when the shops is no longer allowed to sell it. Most stuff can actually stay perfectly fine for up to a week after that date. Except for milk.. But I dunk just under litre a day of the stuff, so it never expires in my presence.

Besides I'm a student, I don't call it "mold", I call it "penicillin"..

Friend and I ate a pack of Twisties over 9 months old, tasted even better and neither of use had any obvious side effects
