I turned 18 late last year and I've decided That I would like to get a small tattoo of my favourite band on my chest. despite being able to get a tattoo without needing permission of my parents, I talked to them about it anyway, and whilst My mother surprisingly is ok with it, my father is not. I just want to know do you have a tattoo or have you ever considered getting one and if you do have one, do you regret getting it done?

No and I don't plan on getting any. Though I do think they look cool.

I have one, and plans for a few others, but I don't really think a tattoo of your favourite band is a good idea. You're 18, there's plenty of time for your taste in music to change. But that's just my opinion, if you really want to do it and don't think it's a bad idea, go for it.

I haven't got one. yet...

I don't really know what to get, and I don't want to end up regretting it 10 years from now. I'm too fickle with music to get a band I like and I want to be absolutely 100% sold on the design, but I'm not a risk taker >_>

Although in Imaginationland, I'd love something like the Assassin's [http://www.ingamemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/AssassinsCreedLogo.png] Creed logo [http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/www.ign.com/1590/2010/10/assassins-creed-2-logo1.jpg] or The Seal of Rassilon [http://www.postcardart.info/misc/rassilon.jpg] / Good old Gallifreyan writing [http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/4265539974_374355fa7c_z.jpg?zz=1]

I have multiple tattoos on my arms and back. Every tattoo I get must be thought on for a year at the very least. If I still really like the idea of the tattoo after a year, I get it once I have the money lying around. It usually equates to 1 new piece a year. I have a lot of problems with certain people getting tattoos. Here's the thing: some people just want a tattoo, not a specific image. That's a problem for me. If you have an image already in mind that you want done, that's fine with me, but if you pose this question to yourself: "I want a tattoo but I'm not sure what I want to get" do not get it, that's how dudes end up with all that bullshit tribal garbage.

As for your plan to get a band tattoo: I can't urge enough against it. I wanted to get band stuff done when I was 18 and it was a terrible fucking idea. Even a year later I was looking back on it and shuddering with the possibilities of having the logo of bands I only listen to on occasion, now, tattooed on my upper arm. Please, think about what you're doing for a little longer before you go and get something as superficial as a band logo on your chest.

I want one. Maybe two. I don't know what I want yet though. A lot of people want something cool and/or unique, and I guess that's what I want for mine but I wouldn't describe it as just that...but I am not sure what yet.

That rule me out then? :p

I was more hoping to get one done with a good friend or future special someone, so it has some sentimental value rather than just a random image or something.

The Assassin's Creed logo is a good one I think, might just have to steal it from you :p

A few. One on each arm, one on my chest and one across the top of my back. I've got a few designs sitting around waiting for the cash to get them done.

A word of advice though, although I desperately wanted a tattoo at 18 I waited until I was 25 until I got my first one and I am so glad I did. If I had have gotten all the impulsive designs that I'd thought up when I was that young I would have regretted the vast majority of them. As it stands I'm happy with all of them.
You might have a cooler head on your shoulders but still just think REALLY hard about your design. Apparently laser removal is more expensive and more painful than getting it done in the first place.

And I have to agree with the rest of the posts about waiting to get one. I thought about this one for two years before I got it and it means something to me.

At 18 your favorite band won't be the same as when you're 30, and though I know you're aware that this is permanent, you have to think ahead.

Nope, but I've been thinking that if I ever do get one, I'll take some physics formula somewhere. And not the obvious "E=mc^2" either. Maybe Maxwell's Equations

I really like that, a scarab right? Im sorely tempted to consider something of that type, on my arm, an icon from an ancient religion seems pretty high up, or some sort of symbol. Doesn't have to have personal meaning, out of interest does this?

Nope. Having something that permanent on my skin isn't fun, not to mention the fact that I don't like how they look in the first place...

Don't have one, but I've been planning on getting one for a few years. Don't want to rush it since the damn thing is permanent. The plan is to get an eagle with the text line "And this bird you cannot change" around it, at least.

I'm booked in to get my first on the 22nd of January, been planning it for almost 3 years and I plan on getting more afterwards.
I have to agree with other peoples comments though, band tattoo's might sound like a good idea but are you sure your going to feel as strongly for the band a year down the line ?
Anyway, if you end up going for it, check your artist thoroughly beforehand, I have friends with some of the most horrible work you've ever seen because they decided to go to cheaper artists. Just remember that most of the well known artists have insane schedules, you might have to book the appointment 6 months in advance (As I've had to do).

Don't have any ink, and to be honest I've never really considered getting a tattoo; there's just nothing I'm so supportive of or attatched to that I want forever dyed into my dermis...
