I've always had an inverted y axis for the PC and for console controllers, and thought the opposite to be completely unintuitive and unmanageable. If I'm handed a non-inverted controller I transform from 'teh pwnz0r!!1!' into an absolute amateur who walks into walls.

I've always thought this the norm until recently when I was told that absolutely nobody inverts their y axis, except a select few who do on their controllers, but on a mouse it's unheard of.

So what do you guys prefer? Am I a heretic who should be burned at the stake, or was my friend just being an exaggerating fool as usual?

I invert my Y axis on consoles. Not for the PC though. Because Up is Up when browsing, and I'm used to that.

I don't on a mouse, but invert console controllers. I used to play straight up, and my friend would play inverted, but somewhere down the line we switched.

Mouse no.

Console yes.

I imagine the stick to be like the head of the character, you pull it back to make his head move back and make him look up, then push it forward to make him look down again.

Doesn't matter to me, I won't deliberately invert them, but you do get used to it fairly quickly.

Consoles yes, mouse no. Although recently I found myself in a situation where I had no mouse and had to aim with the directional buttons. I did best with them inverted (not that I did particularly well with them in the fist place).

Just thinking about posting this question. I don't invert games unless i'm in a aeroplane.

I don't invert, on PC or Consoles. Because If I want to look up I use the up move.

The first games that I got into were flight simulators that I played with a joystick. So, when moving to console first person shooters having the thumb sticks inverted was a logical progression. Haven't changed since.

Neither.

The only reason I might ever consider changing is when I play Quake Wars - Enemy Territory. I set aircraft Y axis to inverted, so it feels better when flying.
