I find they often poorly portray the game, i can understand them for teasers but a lot of games still use them way after development has started. A example of them poorly portraying the game is the Dragon Age ones, anyone who?s played the game knows that the gameplay is nothing like how the show it in a lot of their videos.

Do you like fully rendered trailers?

No, I want to see the game in action. Not something slightly relevant that you could call blatant lying about the game.

Sure they look badass but i really don't care for them. Maybe put one out to show the concept of the game but nothing more.

Yes and no i like ones that show you the games story and give you the atmosphere of the game normally works best with a francise that is already in full swing ect halo finish the fight and the gears of war 2 trailers.

But they should also release game play ones to show this is what the game will look and play like.

I enjoy watching them but I leave it at that. I don't think a game will be amazing just because of an awesome fully rendered trailer.

If I'm looking for something AWESOME the sure, but I'm smart enough to know that the full game with be nothing like it, so I don't build up any expectations.

I get the idea is to make them interseting/exciting looking, but I can never tell what the game is. How am I suppose to know whether or not I want to play a game if I have no idea what I'm going to get for my money, what type of game is it, what is the story, interesting game mechanics. Movie trailers detail the plot and genre of their movie, so why can't games do the same.

Take, for example, the Metal Gear Solid Rising trailer. Fully rendered, and awesome. Looks cool, and is animated perfectly. That game is gonna have a LOT of cutscenes.

But, generally, if I'm getting pumped about a game, which is unusual, then I like a few prerendered trailers. Some of them also inform me if games are taking bad turns, for example, the inFAMOUS 2 trailer.

I like fully rendered trailers if they accurately portray the general feel of the game, I don't care if the gameplay isn't exactly like that as long as the mood, tone and characterisation are in the same vein.

Just like in many movie trailers the songs and even the clips might not make the final cut but if they're good they still accurately capture the essence of the film and encourage you to watch it.

Particularly in the case of game trailers, the idea isn't to sell you the physical game on the rendered trailer alone. That's just to entice you into investigating further. There aren't many game companies that only release the trailer, they also bring out screenshots and gameplay demos. The trailer is the hook to make you interested enough to look up the actual game content.

I think its a fair marketing tactic, if used carefully. There is after all a profound difference between 'capturing the essence' and making a trailer for a totally different game.

No, I don't. I like to see the gameplay as well. I wont buy a game because of the cutscenes.

Some CG is good to watch, but I too prefer gameplay footage.

The ones that have been annoying me recently are The Old Republic cinematics that everyone seems to be raving about.

Yes, they're very well made short films. but they have zero connection to how the game will actually play.

The only thing the DA trailers do for me is make me think, "Man, if they ever made a CG movie, I'd watch that."

It doesn't get me excited about the game though. In fact, it's more frustrating than any other type of trailer, because it's like they said, "We have a cool game coming out! Look look look! BUT NOT BEHIND THE CURTAIN! Don't look there!"

It tells me nothing about the game except that it is coming out in the future. And I think it is misleading for people who know nothing about the series.

As long as I can also have a gameplay trailer I don't mind.
Yeah, gameplay for reviews and some rendered to hype and lore.

I like them(they're candy for the eye), but I wish that every fully rendered trailer should be accompanied by a only gameplay trailer.

i don't mind them sometimes, but it depends if it is really relevant or not. generall it's better to just see the gameplay.

I like the trailers that start cinematic and then move into real game play.
The cinematic part is generally just to catch you attention, and set a mood while the game play parts make you wan't to play it.
