Hello my fellow Escapists.

I've seen countless threads about how some of us are loners, some are athletic, some aren't and all those other questions we ask in threads to know our "neighbors" at the Escapist. So now, it's my turn.

Even if some are loners or athletic answer me this, do you like going to the beach?

I personally love it and couldn't live without it, I live near a lot of them and I simply enjoy being there with my friends having fun, swimming, catching some rays of sun and doing some watersports.

So what's your opinion on a pile of sand and water?

Edit: I messed up the poll, sorry. I pressed enter by accident.

The options were:

Yes, a lot.
Yes.
Meh.
No.
No, I hate it.

Sucks. Oregon beaches are typically very rocky and cold. Sand dunes are fun though.

I spend most of my time on the water, sand is just for laying down when your tired or playing some beachball or something else

I do not like sand therefore I do not like the beach much. Water is fine, wakeboarding is lots of fun, but sand just gets into everything and is annoying. Lakes are superior to beaches.

And mountains are superior to both.

I hate it. The sand is hot, summer is sticky and disguisting (typicially I am not dragged to the beach except during summer) and there are always countless flies, fat people and children. At times an empty beach can be fun, for playing cricket and the like, but really any open space will suffice and it works equally well at a park or sports ground.

Bring on the snow!

I live in Jersey, you think I want to be surrounded by douchebags who wish they were on The Jersey Shore?

Oh hell yeah! Even though Estonian beaches suck I like to comfort myself with the thought that we at least HAVE one :)

The beach is an interesting combination.

-I hate the sand (it gets everywhere. In my shoes, in my clothes, in other areas...)
-I hate swimming (I know how, but I just can't find anything interesting about floating in some cold water for a few hours. Plus it's bad enough that I force myself to swim laps. I don't need anything extra.)

Going to the beach is pretty much double points for making my day suck.

I don't like beaches much. Last time I went to a beach I got a bad sunburn and ran someone over while surfing.

Biased poll is biased; I personally hate the beach as sand is very irritating and gets everywhere. It's hot and unpleasant and there are sharks, jellyfish and people who go to the toilet in the sea.

Definitely, seeing as how the place in England in which I live is probably the furthest away I can get from a beach. But they're only ever really good when you have all or most of the beach to yourself.

The beaches are great fun, ahh the hot sand, the water and the chicks in bikinis playing volleyball. Now I feel like going to the beach...too bad the weather sucks today.

Yes, so much so that when I went to uni I chose a uni based on the fact I could live less than a stones throw away from a beach and good surf locations around.

No, i hate it. Or not hate, i just think its pointless. Its water and sand. I never saw the point, let alone the appeal.

Sure. I don't like the sand that gets in everything - you know how you wash the sand off in the water? How the hell do you get back up the beach, to the car, without getting sand all over yourself again? I've never figured out how to do this and it drives me nuts.

I also hate how it's usually windy as hell. Aside from that, I love going to the beach - the beaches around here are awesome in the summer. The water's just so nice.

It's hard to pass up the allure of a Midway sausage and zeppoli. I don't go "to the beach" I go "down the shore." Besides, most of the guidos stick to Sleazside and there's plenty of beach that isn't in Seaside.

I quite like the beach if it's sunny and sandy. I don't really go in the water much though, prefer to soak sun and people watch.
