Today a discussion about Tycoon-type, business-management games started in school. My classmates meant that there are no market at all for the old tycoon-type games. With tycoon I mean all those games in the Theme, Sim and Tycoon series.

So what do you say? Do you miss the tycoon-type games? And do you think there is a market or is it long gone...?

I can't say if there is a market for it anymore but I'd gladly pay the shit out of a new Railroad or Rollercoaster Tycoon.

I only play them in short bursts and gog has most of the ones I would want. Not sure they could compete if they charged over $30 a game. I am not sure enough people would buy a new tycoon game for $60.

The market is small enough they would have to market much like paradox games. Know your market is small and plan accordingly.

I'd pay for more games in that style. It might not be a big market compared to the likes of Call of Duty and its shooty kin, but there's a market for those sorts of games and I'm in it.

I use to play the very VERY old one.
Business tycoon I think it was called, pretty weird but extremely fun. Heck there was even a candy island to work on.

I had plenty of fun with them years back, but I don't think I'd pay full price for a new one seeing as I wouldn't actually do anything productive on it.

I still play Zoo Tycoon and Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 from time to time. I have no idea if there is a market left but I would love to see some of the tycoon games come back.

Theme Park World, SimCity 3000, The Sims and Zoo Tycoon were my childhood.

My favourite games weren't really about action or story, but about slowly shaping a world and watching as people lived in it. I just can't get that kind of enjoyment out of linear action shooters, and it's why I enjoy games like From Dust more than most people probably do.

Minecraft gets it half right... You can build anything and bend the world to your will, but it doesn't have the appeal because the world feels so devoid of life.
I'd LOVE Minecraft to have some more features of simulation games at some point, like more advanced AI creatures/people and having the actions you perform effect the world a lot more.

Huh, I was under the impression that they were still making them, I mean, I keep finding new ones I've never heard of before. Prison Tycoon sounds hilarious. Actually just recently started playing the original roller coaster tycoon about two weeks ago. Its hilarious, but I'm already missing the things they added in roller coaster tycoon 3, (which I also haven't played in like 5-8 years)

I think its done some weird things to my computer though, LOL

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I played the hell out of Transport Tycoon back in the day, it was awesome, still is, I remember making a habit out of hitting my competitors with trains.
