Ok now, I am a huge Devil May Cry fan. I love the series, I love Dante, Virgil, Trish, Lady, Nero etc.....However, when I saw the trailer for the DMC origin story, I was a little more than just peeved. Yes, I had my time of ranting about how much of a mistake this was. :p Yet after only a week, I found myself rewatching the trailer(the first one), and absolutely loving it. Right now, I am very excited about the new DMC. I honestly want to see the new direction its taking. Besides, I don't want to bag a game that isn't even out yet. (If its good then yippee for us, if its bad THEN we can all send it to the pits of hell. :)

Now tell me, what is it about the new DMC that you hate most?
Is there anything you do like about the new DMC?

I don't want to be too restrictive with the responses but please try to keep the "Dantes appearence" rants to a minimal. I've heard enough rants about the white hair. Also please, no immature fanboy/girl backlash, try to keep your reasons legitemate. Not just something like "Dante looks gay."

I agree with the Bayonetta elements, specifically faster enemies and MUCH higher difficulty. To be perfectly honest I'm looking forward to seeing how they handle Dante. It'll be interesting if nothing else.

I have noticed that people will hate a game (based on its name alone) on this site if it's not what they expect/want.

For some reason they feel insulted that a group of people will try to make a different game instead of the same thing year after year.
Well, no one who worked with the traditional DMCs is involved is on this project. And well, people are free to innovate within a franchise but it still needs to be recognisable, if the screenshots or trailers didn't carry the DMC title I never would've known this was a new entry in the series, to be frank.

Edit: That said, I think this game would've faired better with Capcom fans if they had indeed branded this a whole new franchise, since it doesn't carry the DMC feel, to me at least. On its own it could and probably would be alright, but it's not DMC.

When the very first revel trailer for this came out, so many comments on the YouTube page were "Oh he looks nothing like Dante, this game looks awful!"

But the thing is, all they did is change his hair. He's still, by the looks of it, an arrogant aggressive dick, and that's what makes him a good character.

At the end of the day, sometimes I think gamers these days are FAR too quick to judge. People will decry something as bullshit from a 30 second teaser trailer that shows no gameplay whatsoever. I think sometimes, it's a good idea to put a little bit of faith in the Dev, and just see where they are planning to go with it.

Actually, they changed his facial structure too, mostly because the guy who redesigned Dante modelled him after himself. And his hair style is different too (to match the designer's). So eh, nah, more was changed than his hair colour. The very artstyle is different.

And well, the dev has a long history of so-so games that put polygon pushing over content (in my opinion). So do pardon me for being sceptical.

I don't care for gritty reboots but more importantly I don't care for in name only sequels. I'll be honest this looks like NTs best effort so far but there is still too much wrong with it to be considered DMC.

* A lot of what is shown in the trailers is more brutality focused than stylish focused
* The overall vibe but most especially Dante is far too "super serious" and "grimdark"
* Combos looks a lot more scripted and less freeform compared to past DMC games
* "Your world is a lie" reeks stupid plot twist ending especially after Enslaved's ending
* Combat looks like HS 2.0 and no real new mechanics have been shown or announced

There are a few things from past DMC games NT has got right so far in DmC; the mix of melee and ranged combat, both urban and gothic environments, ground and aerial abilities.

There are also a few new things I'm enjoying; The use of color for otherworldly look, the punk inspired art style, the prospect of dual world gameplay.

I'm really hoping for 60fps, a more comedic tone, a decent Dante redesign, and no stupid twist ending.

even gameplay-wise it doesn't look good. Had this not had the DMC name people would just be apathetic. NT is a mediocre developer and judging by Antoniades' childish dismissals of criticism also quite insecure and pretentious. Aesthetically it looks like someone trying way too hard to be taken seriously. Like a faux-punk who pretends to be a rebel while living on his parents' dollar. NT deserves to tank.

For god sake people it is not a reboot. If you are such big fans of games why don't you bother to look up info about it. The game is not a reboot it is an origin story which the design, the hair colour, not being a god in combat in the trailer make a lot more sense.

OT: Whether or not I'll like it too early to tell but I just wish people would realise that this is not a reboot.

To be honest, I don't know who to believe anymore. Could you get me a link to an article or something? You know, of the developers saying whether its a reboot or an origin story. I have been trying to figure it out. So do you have reliable info for that? I just hope your right though. I'm really hoping its an origin story, cause I'm not that fond of reboots.

There is the interview that says it is meant to be an origin story and that they purposely went for a completely different look with Dante. [http://ie.xbox360.ign.com/articles/112/1129209p1.html]

And this would be a decent game to market to Twilight fans. But it's not a Devil May Cry game.
Twilight fans? Seriously? That's the most inappropriate match I've heard in a long time. Because Twilight is known for it's appeal to the fanbase by means of including cool swords, guns akimbo, intense action and gratitious violence against grotesque monsters. Oh, WAIT.

I'd say it feels more like Bayonetta, though less over-the-top-stylized and more gritty. Doesn't have to appeal to everyone, but it is pretty interesting.

----

Since, as far as I can tell, the story is in the spirit of a prequel, many of the changes make sense. For one, it makes the character more believable, not less. This looks like a very young Dante, probably mid-puberty or just at the end of it. Picture Yourself at 16, then Yourself at mid-twenties. Same image? I doubt it.

Hell, even different hair color makes sense, if we assume that there's a more or less normal world around when the player is not busy kicking demonic ass. That means a society. If it's a world plagued by demons, maybe it's not a good idea to run around with a sign of demonic heritage on Your head?

OIr maybe young Dante just thinks it's badass to have black hair. 'Cause Young people never have funny ideas. "But... it looks emo!" So? Maybe he WAS emo? Not unlikely if Your father is (to Your knowledge) an evil demon and Your mother was murdered by one? Dark, broody, angry youth seems like a very plausible thing there, even if noone else would take it seriously (if he didn't have superpowers, that is).

Lastly, to people who say "Why does it have to be a DMC game? Why can't it be a standalone game?" - it wouldn't work as a standalone game. Because there would be no estabilished history. To achieve the same effect - taking a very estabilished character and showing that he was quite different in his youth - You first have to, well, estabilish the character. You are right - if it was a standalone game, the character would not work at all, it would be nothing special. Like this, well, time will tell, but at least the premise works.

Good to know that all it takes for fans to piss and moan is a change of hair colour. The only difference I can see between this Danté who, by the way, still looks totally kick-ass and awesome, and the traditional Danté is that this one is younger and has black hair as opposed to white.

He still looks kick-ass and looks like an arrogant badass son of a ***** who can make demons his ***** with a BFS so why there's so much backlash is just a testament to the petty attitude of a lot of Devil May Cry fans.

Yes it would, same goes for Prince of persia (the forth just called prince of persia), Dragon age 2 and dawn of war 2. All hated because players wanted the same.
