ever sinse i was a kid and everyone i knew semed to throw the word "gay" around to insult others, i've been baffled by the reason for this. my question is, do the other escapees use the word "gay" as an insult and, if not, what they think of others that do

No.

I've never understood why it's an insult, And i don't like people who do use it as an insult.

Rarely, but only because it slips out. The problem with using it so much when I was a stupid kid is that the habit lingers.

I don't, and I think it makes no sense whatsoever. That word has gone through so many transformations it's ridiculous...

Not to people, but when I'm playing Blazblue or something online and I lose a match I know I should have one, I've been known to let loose a few "GAAAAAAY" shouts.

I've also shouted "STAAAAAIGHT" once or twice though, for the lulz.

Pretty much, if it has a strong A, I'll shout it.

I find most of the aspects stereotypically associated with homosexuality to be positive, so I use it as a complement.

Doesn't translate very well.

No. It's offensive on an intellectual level.
Alexander The Great was gay, dammit! You don't see people insulting him!
I believe that there needs to be more love in this world, no matter how it's directed, so why would the spreading of love be an insult?

In a sense...
Me and a friend started referring to each other as "fag" a while back, simply making fun of all the little Xbox LIVE kids that threw it out every five seconds. Thing is, we kind of forgot to let the joke drop...

EDIT:
I know this doesn't exactly make it more acceptable, but we don't use the term generally or in a serious, insulting context. Just as pitiful attempts to insult each other when we're not using "your mom" jokes.

I don't like to but it just slips out some times, it's what I get for being one of the trash talking 14 year olds back in halo 2, Karma has a funny way of punishing people.

No. Going to liberal arts college where you can't go two feet without someone talking about some form of prejudice does that to a person.

Very rarely, only if they're the type to get riled up over that specific insult. Otherwise it's just juvenile to throw it around everywhere, in my opinion.

This is pretty much my response to anybody who thinks it's an appropriate insult.

Being a only very very slightly bi-leaning-mostly-gay-woman, I don't see why I'd use it as an insult.

I'm all for gay rights and I love gay people, but have you ever seen a white supremest *SP* use in there defense, "Its not a message of hate its a message of love"
