Are you the sort of gamer who loves having a cohort of like-minded gamers, or are you like me, who sets their Clantag on MW2 for the simple novelty of having 'TITS' style childishness in front of their name?

I don't see the point myself, especially since I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen more than one of a clan in any game.

Do they serve a real purpose? Or does having a small party/friend list you game with defeat the point entirely? Are they an anachronism?

Basically I have a bunch of friends who if a tournament pops up we will be a clan for the sake of the prize.

We aren't an official clan and we don't even have a name, but we play clan matches for a laugh and sometimes do quite well.

No thanks, I'm already low on time as it is. Plus I hate playing games with other people I don't know personally

Depending on the members in the group. Most of them are good players and prove to be formidable opponents. Other times the member's are all massive dickheads who turn online multiplayer into a giant dick-waving contest.

Sounds fair enough. I gave up on Task Forces in CoX, since afterwards the other people got all clingy and needy. We had a good thing once, but I wouldn't want to do it again, and you made eye contact throughout the whole thing!

Sorry, what was I talking about?

I'm kind of an honorary member of the HoNK Clan on TF 2 cause I have almost if not all the admins of it on my friends list (the owner and creator of HoNK is on my friends list)

Clans, in my experience, are fun. Sure there are plenty of 'hardcoar' clans who fight to win, but the clan I'm in (UKMD clan, all sorts of PC games, especially Source ones) play mainly for fun.

Games like L4D2 and TF2 get a lot more fun when you play them with people you've played so much with before, with inside jokes and general laughs. I doubt I would've gotten about 250 hours into TF2 if I could only play with random people. I remember the 80's karaoke night with the clan oh so well. We need one with us Escapist peeps.

Not really into Clans.

I tend to play with a small group of friends, which we all pretty much love doing.

I peaked at 39 and boy did we have a brilliant fucking time it was also convienient. Untill we kinda disbanded slowly after some falling outs and hack rumors.

I only make humorous clan tags, I'm not into the whole serious gaming style. I prefer to chill out all the time and have fun playing the games I love.

I'm not good enough to be in a clan. Wouldn't want to be in one anyway, the only clans I ever seem to encounter are those people that sit there playing that same game all day, every day. You know, those people.
Doesn't give 'em the best impression.

Besides, I'm not giving up [FART]FreelanceButler just because I want a sense of belonging. Very few things are worth more than [FART].

Random, slightly relevant side note; Modern Warfare 2 disallows "poop" as a clan tag. No one, in the entire universe, is going to be offended by "poop", especially on a game that's got a frickin' 18 rating!

Clans have no appeal for me, almost all my gaming are single player. So I have never had time to become more than casual at any multiplayer game.

Clans make no sense to me, make me put a clan tag and all that nonsense(even had me change my armor in Halo 2). I prefer to play for fun and hate all the clan BS that comes up.

I'm kind of in a clan, but we rarely compete in anything.
I'd say it's more just for the effect of being in one.

There are some terrible clans which have ranks within them etc, then there are just communities like the Escapist (mostly TF2) one where a lot of them have [ESC] in front of their name if they feel like it.

Most of the regulars do but there are others that don't and it makes no difference, it's just a load of people who met on here and play games together.

But just because you have a tag in front of your name doesn't mean you play competitively and have practise every Wednesday or whatever.

I didn't mean the clan, as I'm in it already :p No I meant the 80's karaoke night, I think I'll make the suggestion in the usergroup chat.
