Based on the Doctor Who timeline the time that the show was off the air the Doctor was fighting the last great time war. this is an important point in the Doctor's life yet we only here of it in flash back. do you think that it should be shown or is it more powerful if it stays as an silent protagonist in the Doctor's life?

So why or why not show the time war? and finally if they do show the time war who should play the Doctor since it appears that in the first episode of the new series "Rose" Eccleston comments on his new body.

I'm kinda torn on this. I'd love to see it in all its horiffic glory on the big screen but I think after all the time that's gone by and all the references that've been made, I don't think it would really live up to the expectation.

Apart from anything else it couldn't live up to the hype thats been built up around it from all the references throughout the series.

But I prefer not seeing it, I think not knowing precisely what happened in the war means its up to you how horrific the war was, and everyone has their own unique interpretation of it.

Well first of all it would be hard to fit it in unless it happened as a flashback. The war was "time-locked" meaning that nobody can go in or out, and the end was final, and cannot be changed. So there wouldn't be a way for the Doctor to go back even if he wanted to, and personally I feel like a great big flashback would be somewhat pointless.
Now does this mean I would ignore it if there was a time war movie (and it would have to be a movie, seeing as how complicated it all was and how long the war was)? No. I would watch the fuck out of it. I just don't really think it's something that the series should go back to. Tennant spent his final season bitching about Rose and the time war, so I really don't want to see Smith's Doctor taken back to Tennant's whining days.

I think an episode with a ffe falshbacks to sall scenes of the Timewar would work, ANy more than that and it would Ruin the Mystery.

But overall, Yes.

Nah, there's no way they could do it justice.

Having a big epic backstory is all well and good, but it seldom translates well into it's own movie/whatever. It doesn't help that by the time you've got a big epci backstory going, your franchise might be getting to the "pump it out, the rabid fan'sll buy anything" stage though.

I'd not want that. My imagination can do a better job depicting the Time War than any TV station with a budget ever could.
