After catching wind of the 2007 servers being back up, I decided to go back to RuneScape for the first time in 6 years. I played it back in 4-7th grade and all of my friends and I had a small group we would go PKing with. After I got into Jr. High, however, we all simultaneously stopped playing it for one reason or another. Mine was because I got hacked. Was it coincidence that we all stopped playing, was it because we all outgrew it, or was the game, itself, dying?

I remember that game. It was cool back in 4th grade, then my friend hacked my account and I never played it again.

Man who doesn't remember RuneScape. Played it for about a year around 4th grade. It was the first (and to this day, pretty much only) MMO I ever played so the concept of meeting my friends online and fighting monsters with them essentially blew my mind. Got bored of it, but it was fun for the time I did play.

I still remember spending half an hour just trying to figure out that lever puzzle in the basement of the haunted mansion. Goood times.

Yeah I remember it.
I got bored and gave my account to a friend but told him not to change the password in case I changed my mind and wanted to play again, a few weeks later found out he changed the password so I just used recovery questions and got the account back. He seemed pretty bummed after that...

Anywho RS07 is membership only and like hell I'm paying for something we use to get for free and is essentially a downgrade of the current version. People will only play for nostalgia.

It was pretty much my first and only MMO. A lot of friends were playing at the same time. I remember fishing lobsters and once someone gave me free black armour. It's a gateway drug

Where's the option for "I remember it but never actually played it." because that's where I am. It always looked kinda dumb to me.

When I started playing there was no membership and at one point the devs actually begged players to click the adverts because they were struggling financially. The game blew my 13 year old mind though, I had never seen a game map that big before (there was only Lumbridge, Varrock and Falador back then).
I finally packed in when I was about 16-17 and never really had any reason to play except for the occasional nostalgia trip.

I played from 2005-2009/10 ish.

Most people stopped playing in 2007, and pretty much everybody else stopped playing in the following years. By that point Jagex had pretty much ruined runescape by removing PvP from the wilderness, and almost entirely from the game.
After that the following updates only made the game worse by making the game more generic and have less of a personality, meaning that most of the players probably moved on to WoW.

Anyway, i might try out oldschool scape because i never got bored of the game, i just stopped playing because of the updates that changed the game (for the worse)

Yes, and I actually came back about half a year ago!

It's still great fun and the quests are the best in any MMO i've played so far. Only problem is much focus of the combat is put on buying expensive gear (you will never have gear drop that is an upgrade for you). There's also a large amount of grinding, which is why I quit again.

Still, I really like the graphical update they did at some point as it looks more tolerable now. Oh, and the music is highly memorable too.

I think a better question would be, did anyone forget Runescape?

I still remember it, mostly the better memories fortunately. Sharing an account with a brother is the best thing ever.

I played it on and off from 02 to 05.
I still remember it semi-fondly.
It's the purest essence of MMO without all the obnoxious bells and whistles.

Aah, I really did love playing it with friends back in middle school, and I haven't really been interested in MMOs since then. The simple music, the wandering around finding quests, there was just something that felt, very charming about it. Though maybe that's the nostalgia talking.

I stopped for a few reasons; most of my fellow non-member friends lost interest, and I really became disenchanted with mining for several hours when I realized I was just doing it so I could mine something better for even longer. But still, fond memories.

Oh yeah, heheh, I remember that..
I never did beat that mansion quest. I guess there was a time that I considered myself above using online guides...

I have no option other than remembering. I get everyday more than 500 spam mails talking about it.
Same here -.- I have no idea how to make it stop. Aggresive e-mails don't seem to be doing it. I may have to have to find a number of theirs to prank call them once for every spam mail I get.

Sure I do! That game will always hold a special place in my heart. It may not look particularly well, sure, and the combat is shallower than a tea spoon, and the whole thing is a grindfest and an Ultima Online knockoff to boot, but I spent way too much time playing it back in the day.

Let's see... I played it from 2006 to 2007, stopped playing shortly after they removed the Wilderness (used to murder people and mine that expensive metal, whatsitsname). Then around 2008 or 2009 I got back into the game, wanted to try all that premium content. Enjoyed it quite a bit, especially the quests. Got bored, quit around 2010. Came back last year, played for about three months, then they introduced that annoying spinny lottery thingy and after several weeks started monetising the bloody thing. So one day I was picking some knight's pockets in Ardougne (small house left of the marketplace, you guys know what I'm talking about) when that gamble thing popped up and I thought "Meh, I'm kinda tired of all this BUY MORE TRIES nonsense all over the place" and decided to log off until next day. Never touched the game since.

It's kinda like seeing your ex do really sick and perverted porn. I'm gonna go cry in a corner, if you'll excuse me.

I first heard of it around 2003.
I didn't like what it looked like, so I never played it.
A friend of mine failed to "sell" it to me in his explanation.
