I was just curious and wanted to know if gaming or a certain element in gaming has inspired you to write a story, poem, song or something else creative? I know that past artists have been inspired by the work that came before them and console/computer games are, or at least can be, an art of there own. Since the focus here is on creations than on the games itself I posted in the Off-topic section.

If you have something, would you like to share it with us? I know it's difficult to be put on the spot like that so I'll go first.

I created this poem based on the filthy cells from Batman: Arkham Asylum and it takes the point of view of a regular inmate.

I am doomed to walk in sadness.
I am made to live in the dark.
I shall sing of my failing dreams
Like the caged mourning lark.
There is a pain that consumes me,
It is more than I can stand,
Because standing in Jeremiah's shadow
Has made me who I am.
I am haunted by the things I did
My mistakes dwelling in the past.
For I can no longer fool the world
By hiding behind the Arkham mask.
If there's one thing I would ask of you,
Even though I haven't the right,
Is that thee will say a prayer for me
when I dream of thee tonight.

Sometimes. I got a novel started by combining elements of Assassins Creed and the new Prince of Persia with some apocryphal biblical books. It's turned out very well so far.

It made me feel I can do something incredible, then I died so then I was sent in to a depression.

Well, World of Darkness has had me create some good stury arcs.
I also created a city from scratch, with a map and full backstory (for the city and inhabitantas, the important ones anyway).

I also tend to incorporate things I like from movies/books/games into my story arcs.

I have Fallout 3 to thank for my current job. No, really.

See, I loved "The Adventures of Herbert 'Daring' Dashwood", and it made me think "hey, wait a minute, now that there's the Internet and a content delivery system that doesn't require the listener to be in the same place at the same time every week, what's to stop someone from doing an old-time radio serial via podcast?"

So I put an ad up on Craigslist, got ten (TEN!) people to write and voice-act for a show we've created, and we're going live with weekly episodes starting Sunday night, May 16. We have six in the can and plan on doing them for as long as people want to work on them and listeners want to listen.

Well despite having the creative talent of a demented badger Metro 2033 has become the inspiration behind the Imperial Guard army that i am currently modelling. Not that its going well, i cant model for shit.

That sounds pretty cool. What's the premise of the show?

As an amateur animator/game developer wannabe, videogames constantly inspire me when they've got a really beautiful art direction, and I mean beyond good graphics. For example, Trine was visually stunning, the whole environment just felt so much like a fairytale it always made me want to get to work.

Hell yeah! As long as the game had meaning. ie. You can pretty much rule out most time spent in multiplayer.

Many(but not as many as I'd like) games have brilliant settings and story's. With deep characters(ie. not the faceless/nameless/backstoyless/action hero line master chief). Its hard to not be inspired.

In this way their is no difference between games and other forms of media(poems, movies, literature).

The important part here is that games can inspire gameplay elements as well, which is unique to our media! How many times have you played a game and thought: "It would be better if this game mechanic worked like this"? And with modding communitys and the like, we are in a prime position to realise these inspirations.

It's a good time to be alive. :D

It inspires my career goals. I read that making games is supposed to be as unfun as they are fun to play, but I can totally see myself slaving over a hot computer working graphics without wanting to go on a shooting rampage. (Especially since I've dispised every other job I've ever had).

I made this, <img src=http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k308/ObsessiveSketch/motivational.jpg?t=1271570791>
and this:

based off of discussions on the Escapist.
Various doodles from games I've played as well.

Near-earth space opera, early 22nd century, with a couple of alien races from nearby star systems making occasional appearances. And a homicidal robot with a voice actor who cracks me the fuck up every time I work with him. Plus Shatner parodies, bad Scottish accents, gender-ambiguous communications officers, a female captain, and dog people who talk like Samuel L. Jackson. When it goes live...well, there's only so much I can do to talk about it on here because of the whole "thread gets locked for advertising" thing, but I'm sure I'll find a way to work a legitimate discussion thread into it ;-)
