I'm playing Dragon Age 2 now and so far I am not impressed. But It's still a decent enough game and I will finish it. Though I was wondering...

I keep hearing good things about The Witcher 2. But what does the Escapist think about The Witcher 2 when compared to Dragon Age 2? What is better and why?

IMO, i like Dragon Age 2 a lot better. But because of the flack DA2 has been getting here, The Witcher 2 will probably get at least 80% more votes.

Witcher 2: Game of Thrones with monsters and spellcasters. Good combat, good story, good characters. Playing it currently, seriously enjoying it.

Dragon Age 2: generally considered to be a cash-in. I can't speak to this since I haven't played it, but the consensus seems to be that it's an okay game but not particularly good by bioware standards.

You obviously haven't been here long. First off, bit of a late welcome.

Second, there was once a time where Halo was constantly, needlessly bashed. It still happens on occasion here, but Dragon Age 2 has taken over the position of Reigning Champion of (mostly) Exaggerated Faults.

That, or Modern Warfare. But all the same, that should give you an idea of what to expect.

EDIT: For the record, I haven't played Witcher or 2, so since I love the Dragon Age universe I'm going to have to vote DA2.

TW2. The game's handling on political turmoil and other mature themes were superb.

And yes i'm a bioware fan.

Have not played Witcher 2 but I do enjoy Dragon Age 2. Witcher 2 would probably win the poll seeing as how Dragon Age 2 is currently very hated amongst alot of the community and Witcher 2 is seen as the sort of Anti-DA2 around these parts.

While I've yet to see this said, (though it will probably be said in the amount of time I take to type this) Versus threads are not generally favored here, but you seem to be new to the community so I suppose it is forgivable. Welcome by the way!

Considering that I own both I would have to say the witcher 2 with out any second thoughts. I don't consider DA2 a bad game at all. But it does have its fault. But The witcher 2 is the best pc RPG I've played in recent years!

I haven't played The Witcher 2 yet, but from what I've heard... it's a bit on the immature side. People tell me it feels like it was written for 14-year-olds.

I loved DA2, though. Despite its faults and flaws. That said, I'm not going to vote in the poll since I don't consider myself qualified without having played TW2.

So what you're really saying is that you have no valid basis at all for your vote? ;)

OT:
I loved the combat in DA2. The story and implementation of interaction with your NPCs seemed rather lazily done, not to mention the recycled environments.

The Witcher 2 seems to have an interesting story and interaction with NPCs and the environments are unique and very impressive.
Unfortunately, the combat and inventory system is terrible.

So its pretty much a case of: Good story, good gameplay, good environments. Pick 2.

Edit: There seems to be a whole lot of "I haven't tried it but I think it [insert unfounded opinion here]" posts in this thread already. Silly, silly.

DA2 : better controls, easy gameplay to the point of being almost on rails
W2 : better looks, better story, challenging gameplay with next to no hand-holding

Choose whatever fits your taste.

I haven't played The Witcher 2, but suffice to say that I enjoyed the first couple of 10 minute Let's Play video's of this game more than the entirety of Dragon Age 2.

Oh god, could we please stop with these kinds of threads? We all know it will only lead to flame-wars and the inevitable "nuh uh, this game is much better because i think so"...

...Oh look, its already started!

Can't we all just refrain from making such easily flammable threads? i am sure this forum has seen enough of it these past weeks.

On the "immaturity" thing, a lot of people find the profanity off-putting. It's basically on par with stuff like A Game of Thrones and how people actually talked in the middle ages*. But in how the characters behave, the complexity of the storyline, etc., I'd consider it very mature for a video game - more on par with a good novel. Which makes sense, given the game's roots.

*although they were less about the f-bombs and more about the creative blasphemy or social-class-based insults :)

you're confusing argument with reaction.. and that reaction was aimed to the 'people'. *cough
