As i sit here waiting for my friends to come online so we can do the final race of our own forza motorsport 2 series, i look at the laptop for entertainment, namely the escapist. I can't recall ever seeing a topic about any form of racing or driving game, so i ask; Do people like/play them?

Personally, i play Racing games all the time, it's my favourite genre. (As you may guess by the self-done tourney).

I enjoy the more original racing games. Games like Star wares: Pod racing, Wipeout, F-Zero, and to an extent mario kart are the ones I enjoy. I can't stand "realistic" racing games, they bore the shit out of me. In the ones I like you get that real sense of speed and they are fun, then I hop on to need for speed or something like that and I'm half asleep. The only thing in those "realistic" racers I like is the customization, if you had that cool vehicle customization in a game like wipeout I would be all over that.

I've never been into racing games, they've always bored me.

I don't hate them though. They're ok.

Not for me, I think Burnout: Paradise is the only one I've played for a decade, and it's fun, but I wouldn't buy it.

The best racing games, imho, are Burnout (all of them kick ass), Wipeout, PGR3, Gran Turismo, and Dirt. I think that they are the type of games that you can use to relax between games and to just have pure fun in Burnout/Wipeout (my favs).

The only "racing" games I've ever gotten into were in the Burnout franchise but I haven't really liked any of them since Burnout Revenge.

I guess it's because I don't play them for the racing; I always preferred the road rages and crash junctions.

That's one reason I wish they would stop polishing the turd they call Paradise and just make a new game. Paradise has maybe a half dozen road rages (its mostly races and burning laps) and the showtime thing is a poor substitute for crash junctions (something that could be amazing with the next gen power).

Racing games aren't exactly my thing, but I do enjoy the occasional good one. Last was Midnight Club: LA, and before that was Forza Motorsport 2. Also, the racing in GTA4 is damn good.

Im a car nut in real life so of course i play racing games. Ive been somewhat of a fan of the Gran Tourismo series, i hate their obvious japanese bias but they are very decent racing sims. Never had the pleasure of playing Forza, but from what i hear i should. Ive also been waiting for someone to finally make a decent F1 game, i think i might be waiting a while for that.
Yeah, forza's good, more realistic than GT, but lacks as good graphics and car/track selection. As for the F1 game, too true. I doubt the new codemasters game is any good for it, assuming it's similar to the F3 in GRID. I did like F1 06 though, except for lacking AI.

I play them as a break from the hardc0r4 gamingz0rz pwn4g3. Almost half my 360 games are racers, they're much more enjoyable on a console with the analog sticks and triggers. I refuse to buy a steering wheel though.

If I want to drive, I'll get a drivers license. I like games like Mario Kart and WipeOut, and I think I'll get Fuel. That game really looks promising. But driving simulation, why bother when I can drive in real life (if I would bother to get a license).

The only realistic racing game I ever liked was Ridge Racer. I despised Gran Tourismo, and anything similar.

I like racing games with some kind of edge to them, like F-Zero, Mario Kart, and the like (never liked WipEout either), those kind of games I could play for hours.

Maybe if I used a steering wheel, it might make realistic racers more enjoyable for me.

For me they're only truly fun when played against other people. I, however do find that racing round at ridiculous speeds endangering fictitious people surprisingly entertaining. But this runs off my competitive streak and there are only so many time I want to beat a computer.

I'm a long-time Need for Speed fan, but I might not be much more if "Realism" proves to be more than a fad. I also like Burnout, but I don't consider it a racing game 'cos I only play the Crash Modes.

I adore the driving genre more than the FPS genre. It's just there's a lot more to talk about with FPS's. They have a plot and violence and controversy and rivalries with other FPS's, whereas the only rivalries in racing games are Forza vs Gran Turismo, Burnout Vs Project Gotham and Grid, Wipeout Vs F Zero, and Colin McRae Vs Sega Rally.
