I played Duke Nukem Forever and I thought it was an alright game. Yes the humor was terrible, but I don't think it is meant to be taken seriously. I probably like it because of nostalgia because when I first played a duke nukem game I was young enough to think all of that bad humor was funny. Anyway evrything I have read online pretty much bashes this game and the main reason is everyone seems to think the humor is so bad that you would have to be a complete idiot to play it. I disagree I liked the game and think you have to be a complete idiot to take it seriously and to be offended by it. It is a parody on action heros any 80's movie with schwarzenegger or stallone (with admittedly a little to much potty humor). Anyway I wrote all of that to ask, Does anyone out there agree with me, or do you all hate it?

Like Russ Pitts said, you can definitely see that it was stuck in development hell, jumping between developers.

When it's good it can be really good, but the rest is mostly abysmal.

5/10, maybe 6 on a good day.

If you really need to get rid of your money, I'm sure there are a lot of worse things you could spend it on, but, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have spent more than a tenner on it, tbh.

So far I'm enjoying it, but that's because I dove in with an open mind, not expecting it to be the second coming of Christ like other people have.

I'm glad I never had any interest in Duke Nukem. First of all, NO FPS should take 12 years to get done. And I also don't quite understand the notion of "elevated expectations and hype" around this game. To me, yeah if a game takes 5 years, maybe 6 to make, that's cause for getting excited and hyped about the possibilities of a project that truly garnered 6 years of development time. There's a difference in 12 years of development time, and constant delays resulting in this project sitting on the shelves of multiple developers.

Why didn't someone at some point say "maybe we should take this in a different direction"? I mean, I understand keeping to a style of a game in tact, but when the generation for which the game was intended has changed DRASTICALLY since it was first put into development, wouldn't that be a red flag that "maybe the gamers who we intended to sell this to 10 years ago have, you know, matured somewhat over the last decade"?

OT: I can't say whether this game is good or bad. All I can say is the more I heard about it getting delayed and picked up by new developers, the less I expected from it. I will admit that I owe my friend $20 though. I never thought this game would see the light of day.

I rather like it. I'll grant that I also came in based on nostalgia, but my nostalgia is pretty easy to satisfy, and it's not like I was sitting on my hands waiting for the game for the past dozen years. I've been occupied in that time.

I also don't have any real objections to the gameplay mechanics, but that's something else entirely.

All these people getting bent out of shape over modern aditions like 2 guns and regenning health, it's like so many granpas yelling get off my lawn. How is it not Duke? all the humor, one liners, satire, sleaze interactive stuff to screw around with, shooting is very much like a 90s FPS, with a bit of serious sam sprinkled in and it's FUN.

Also there have been 3 Duke Nukem games, the first one was a friggin 2D platformer so how can you say DNF isn't a proper duke game cuz it doesn't use the exact mechanics of DN3d? Total BS.

I hate puzzles in games but like the ones in this one, they are easy enough to not be annoying. Though that part is certainly more Halflife than duke.

IMO the game is the perfect antidote for Call of duty.
