The recently announced Star Wars: Battlefront will be the first in a series of games that aim to rethink how games treat the Star Wars universe, said EA's games label Patrick Soderlund.

"The most important thing for me is that we take the Star Wars license and come up with games where peoples' jaws drop," he said. "We need to do with this what [Batman: Arkham Asylum] did for the Batman license."

The first announced title under EA's recent agreement with Disney to make Star War games is the new Star Wars: Battlefront game announced during E3.

Soderlund said there wasn't much he could tell me about the game, which is being developed by Mirror's Edge and Battlefield developer DICE.
"It's going to take awhile," he said. "We just announced the license and showed a sneak peek of Hoth. The speeder and the AT-AT will be in [the game] for sure."

DICE is working on the game because after EA landed the deal, developers from the studio came to him to ask to make it, Soderlund said.

"I didn't think they wanted to build it," he said. "I thought they only wanted their own IP. But it's a really good fit."

The team working on the new game will be looking at everything as they work on this new title, he said, including the work put into Star Wars: Battlefront 3 before it was canceled.

"We didn't toss anything out," he said. "We're looking at the old games. We have access to everything that was done during the LucasArts era. But we do want to take our own stance."

Not happy with the ways they said that they want to take their own stance, but if this means that games like KOTOR 3 and Republic Commando 2 will happen in the future, then let's hope they do it right!

Not KOTOR because Bioware would ruin it. Give that to Obsidian.

Space sims would be nice but they'd probably charge you to unlock more ships.

TIE Fighter! I still play it whenever I get a hankering to blow up some rebel scum! TIE Defenders rule! I haven't found any space fighter sim as fun or entertaining since then. I felt like a traitor playing X-Wing.

Agreed, Obsidian did a better job with the license than Bioware did.

What we need is a new Jedi Knight/Academy game. Those were fantastic.

As much as I loved KotoR, I wouldn't like to see a sequel from Bioware now. I think the first is better than the second but I don't like where Bioware is going as a compnay, or even has gone. KotoR 2 may well have been better than the first if Obsidian had been given more development time, I'd be interested to see a sequel from them but not so much from Bioware.

Tie Fighter. I could do with another top notch space sim. Gives me an excuse to get out the old joystick again. Failing that, the more arcade-y Rogue Fighter would do as well.

So long as I don't have to be a jedi or sith again. I'm tired of space wizards.

Although, a new Republic Commando would be nice. They could make it Imperial Commando and have us hunt down and kill jedi. I'd dig it.

a remake or another game like Bounty Hunter would be amazing but EA can be very disappointing so i have little faith/hope in anything they make from Star Wars.
EA is just to focused on money and control to make anything fun.

...why is 1313 on that list? Isn't it currently in development?
It was cancelled when Disney pulled the plug on LucasArts, along with First Assault, another Star Wars game in development.

The reason why I included it on the poll list is because there's a possibility of development resuming.

Where's the option for "Get your hands off Star Wars, EA!" accompanied by uncontrollable sobbing?

Republic Commando since the first one was very good and ended on a cliffhanger that would feature Order 66 from the clones perspective.

I would really like to see Dark Forces 5/Jedi Knight 4. None of this Force Unleashed crap, I want saber combat that really tracks your weapon alongside force telekinesis and such. I think the tech is finally to the point where we could model terrain and stormtroopers to be sliced apart at any angle instead of 'em popping apart at preset joints. Careful not to lose your hand!

Metal Gear Rising is already 20 steps ahead on this plan.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that wants an RC sequel. Kinda sad to see Rogue Squadron so down under though.

Minus the telekinesis juggle, anyway. That was always my favorite thing to do in the Jedi Knight games; see how many troopers I could grip-push into the air and slice before they hit the ground. My record was 3.

What game in the Star Wars universe would I want to see EA bring back next? None of them.

What game in the Star Wars universe would I want to see a better dev/pub bring back next if EA didn't have all the rights to make Star Wars games? Probably a KotOR game or maybe another improved Empire at War even though that isn't on your list.

Force lightning's the best anyway.

Point is, the technology is there to provide the slicing. Now all we need is the appropriate amount of gore that the movies would never ever have been able to show. You are slicing people in half, there will be blood on everything.

Wouldn't the intense heat of the lightsaber cauterize the wound though?

Only if you don't go by Lucas' (admittedly far-fetched) instant-cauterization theory of lightsaber wounds. It's true that a little bit of cooked flesh isn't going to hold a disemboweled trooper's guts in... I wouldn't make that the focus of the saber combat, personally. But yeah, the tech is definitely there.

And force lightning has always been boring. The darkside is all about dangling dudes over endless drops and pushing 'em into the void. Failing that, drain 'em 'til they're on their knees, then remove their arms and let 'em writhe. This could be my old dark jedi group in SWD20 talking through me. That was some painful GMing. I made the good guys, they tore 'em apart in some of the most sadistic ways I've ever encountered...

*edit*
Methinks this poll needs another option...
