Other than Funimation, I don't watch a lot of dubbed anime. They do their jobs very well, unlike certain companies that begin with 4.

I'm partially deaf so, to that end, I have subtitles on all the time anyway, even if it's in English. I get by.
I went for 'Good if done right' because I have watched FMA, Cowboy Bebop, Dragonball Z, Shaman King, Yu Gi Oh (okay, some's terrible, but Joey's hilarious accent, Tristan and DAN GREEN easily make up for it. Come on. Say it with me. DAN GREEN) and the Studio Ghibli movies, but the majority is really, really shit. Believe it.

Virtually all the voice acting for anime is awful, if you ask a japanese person to say whether the acting in an anime is bad, they'll probably say yes.
But invariable, the voice acting of the Englishmen or Americans they get for the dubs are worse. So it's better, as an English person, to watch anime where you can't tell how bad the voice acting is.
Also, it makes me feel superior when other people say things like 'Hurr Durr! I can't watch subbed anime, the words go too fast.'

You might be right about that, but when I hear of the cult about voice actors in japan, I tend to think it can't be that bad. (Just see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seiyu).Spineyguy said:

I really don't see whats the big deal i watch dubs because i dont like reading subtiles,i mean as long as they dont change the story (cough cough 4kids tv) it's good with me
The only dubs i've actually liked were One Piece and Basilisk.

I think it all depends on the budgeting. Most of the really popular and well done animes have pretty good voice-acting for the dubbed versions. Take Inuyasha for example. It's been running for longer than I remember and they have hired people with a lot of experience in that field. But when it comes to less well known animes and such, subtitles are the way to go.
On the whole pronunciation thing.. I think it's just because where the actors are English and Japanese pronunciation comes off easily to those who are either born in Japan or people who have resided in heavily Japanese speaking areas. When you give any random English speaking person, they are not going to know how to pronounce something like, "Hiraikotsu" right off the bat and eve so, not 100% perfect.
This is the same for video games. Where in some games, they should just keep at the original Japanese voice and keep the English dialogue to words only that the consumer must read, "Ohnoes, reading!!" XD
But anyway, that's my thought on it.

There are good dubs and bad dubs, much like anything else. The dubs for anime like Hellsing (They actually had English accents in England), Princess Mononoke and Death Note were good, but there are some animes that just don't translate well, like Bleach.
Cowboy Bebop was an anime that did it "right." Sadly I hear those voice actors to much in dubs now to say it still holds true. But back when the Cowboy Bebop dubs were fresh, they really showed voice actors that a dubbed anime doesn't have to be bad. 
Also, I can't watch Ghost in the Shell (anything) subbed. The voice actors of Batou, Chief Aramaki, and a few other characters were to perfect for me. The Majors' voice in both movie and series went from good to so-so, with the aforementioned voice actors picking up the slack.

I dont mind dubs too much, ovbiousley6 they arent perfect but I'd rather NOT learn Chinese, Japanese, and Korean then try and tell the squiggly lines apart. Sorry, it all looks almost the same to me, Korean, and Japanese are so close it would cause me an anurisum trying to tell them apart, and Chinese and Vietnamese are the same way.
The Japanese have different standards of acting from the west. I'm not saying that all Japanese actors are terrible, in fact I know quite a few that aren't, but most people don't watch anime for the stellar performances of their favorite Japanese voice actors do they?
Well, comrade kat, I personally prefer dubs because I can watch it and do something else at the same time. With subtitles, I basically have to read, as opposed to listen, about what is happening. Of course, this all depends on the quality of the dub, but, so far, I haven't really found any anime serieses in which I absolutely couldn't stand listening to it (though many dubs will have some characters whose voice is horrible, or their lines are absolutely atrocius.)

Dubbing is good as it allows more people a chance to see if they like the genre, having seen movies/other cartoons dubbed in Chinese and German, you can do a lot worse than English. Subtitles are preferable, but if it's dubbed there will be a subbed version already made.
A few anime shows have been dubbed well: emphasis on the word "few." Cowboy Bebop and Fooly Cooly are two of these. But there are lots of problems with most dubs, from the voice acting (assuming the actors can act in the first place, which is rare, the vocal directors usually screw it up anyway by trying too hard to make them sound like the Japanese voices) to the translation (I seriously didn't even get Advent Children until I saw it subbed: Cloud was dragging this emotional burden, and the word "drag" was translated as "Dilly dally": it made no sense).
