There has never been a truly effective drm for a non-mmo, but some have held for a few weeks. Have you ever tried to pirate a game, failed, and bought it instead?

No not really (I have non of the pre-requisite skill sets), But some of my friends will often "pirate" a game just to break through the DRM (they almost never bother playing it afterwards).

I never have bought a game because of DRM. It's just more of a niggling feature in games which doesn't get in my way but is still kind of irritating thanks to my rather crappy internet connection.

NO!

Just to let you know, if anyone admits piracy on here they get a warning so the results will be skewed. Though I will answer an honest no. I do the reverse when the game I bought refuses to run.

I don't play MMOs that I would have to pay for. That is, I hold no interest for something I'll only play off-and-on AND cost me something. There are plenty of good F2P games out there that I enjoy and only play because of my friends, my girlfriend, and to pass time in a hobby-like fashion.

So, in short, no.

However...I happen to find the DRM thing and even cases of DLC to be stupid. I just want a game, full and complete, to occupy my time with. Too hard for you?

Nope.
There are plenty of games I haven't bought because of DRM, though.

I still have an unopened copy of GalCiv II that I bought specifically to support Stardock's decision to not encumber it with DRM. One of these days I'll get around to playing it. >.>

Prepare to lose a few weeks of your life. It's almost as addictive as Civ IV.

OT: No, but there's a few I haven't bought because of DRM.

Yeeeeeah, I was kind of thinking of that.

I buy all my games, but DRM will similarly put me off a game because of bad experiences. DRM has inconvenienced me in many ways, including making my legally purchased games unplayable. Kind of funny how it's the legit customers who are likely to get hurt her.

Nope. I did, however, purchase Prince of Persia (the one after the Sands of Time series) on the PC specifically because Ubi decided not to use any DRM. Voting with the wallet and all that.

Actually, I recall a producer or some other person on that team saying he'd give a handshake (or was it a hug?) to anyone who bought the game for that reason. I'm owed a handshake! If only I could remember who the heck it was.

I've bought games that have no DRM, because they have no DRM. Prince of Persia 2008 was the most recent example I can remember. Fat lot of good it did, because I still haven't played it, and Ubisoft didn't give a damn and started encumbering their games with some of the worst DRM on the market.

But to answer the question, no. I've never wanted a game that I didn't want to pay for that I ended up buying because of the DRM. I can't remember the last time I wanted a game I didn't want to pay for though.

I've have had the opposite happen though. I bought Doom 3 and couldn't run it until I cracked it. The DRM on it was so bad that it refused to run on my system. I think it was because I had two CD drives.

You should. It's pretty good for an RTS (I suck at them so I be biased). And if you ever figure how in the fuck that shipbuilding thing works let me know. I can never make practical ships with it. I always end up building dreadnought monstrosities that cost to much, or take too long to build, or can't travel anywhere 'cause I forgot to add life support.

GalCiv II is a 4X, not an RTS. >.> And as an experienced Space Empires 4 player, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to manage designing my own ships. ;)

RTS, 4X, Same thing lol. I'm terrible at both :)
Since you're good at the ship designing thing then you'll have no trouble. Have at it.

To be fair, it's technically admitting "attempted internet piracy" which I suppose isn't piracy. I mean, if you have zeroes and ones that are the basis for intellectual property, but don't resemble that intellectual property in any meaningful way (by not running), is it still theft?
