I think lockpicking is better than science but science is still good to becouse hacking terminols gives better rewards.

I like investing points in Science, because seeing that skill maxed out makes me feel smart.

Lockpicking is way easier. Hacking is so stupid. Picking a word at random from a list.
I've recently discovered how to find the names based on the random choice.

Science can tend to be quite simpler, with attempt restores, incorrect answer removers, A hint system, and the fact that you don't need a special item to hack.

In truth I max out both as soon as possible.

Yeah, Hacking is a word game. You can make it easier by finding the random arrangements of symbols that either remove false possibilities or replenish your allowance. After you have found all those codes you just have to see which words fit and if they do fit then they are in the same spot as the next word.

Science = 100 and then the perk that lets you redo any failed hack job, way better than lock picking. Also, once you run out of picks you're effed. You never run out of SCIENCE

Science! It's kind of silly if you shout out "Lockpicking!", see.

Science, with couple expections, tends to be just an alternative for lockpicking that is not always available. It's rather pointless because of this.

If I had to choose I'd say Lockpick because there alot more stuff out there that is locked without a computer for me to get at.

But what I like to do is if there is ever a Computer/safe lock or computer/door lock is get on the computer, hack it to get the XP turn the computer off then go to the door and pick the lock to get that XP. On the right level of diffculty your looking at 100XP plus every lock.

why not max out both?
Assuming you have any sense you play on the PC, and if you do, you ought to use a levelcap increaser. I've got my max level set to 100

Hacking is much more complex than picking a word at random.
In fact, it is possible to solve ANY of the problems with three guesses WITHOUT retrying, by using a basic decision tree method to choose guesses which eliminate the max amount of guesses.

I found it quite fun really.
Likewise, however I find Lockpicking more useful because I find a lot of ammo in ammo boxes, and several of those are locked. And because there are way more objects that have locks as opposed to computer terminals.

Science.

Because I'm using the FO3 - Wanderers Edition mod, which gives me, among other things, the power to use explosives to blow locks!

You need both of them. Especially if you're me and you simply HAVE TO KNOW how many narcotics are in each safe you come across. But if I must choose, I'd say Science because I LOVE the minigame. The only one I ever will LOVE.

I made it through the whole game without running out of lock picks so I quickly maxxed lockpicking and ended up gaining several levels by picking EVERY locked item/door in rivet city

Hacking, it gave you more stuff and made getting through places easier. Also I didn't suck at it like I did lockpicking haha.

Me too! I hated missing out on things, and I always enjoy taking the short-cut for the Nuka-Cola Challenge :)
