Some of it's good, a lot of it's bad and I think at least 80% of nerds can admit to writing it at some point. So, what do you think about it?

read some, wrote 1 (badly), some left me thinking I really didn't want to read that, damn you mental images leave me be! Others were genuinely really good and left me thinking this could probably get published if the original owners allowed it.

Like all media: there's a few good ones, and then there's a TON of terrible ones.

For every one good piece of Fan Fiction there are a few thousand shitty pieces of it where the writer has just fufilled some sort of odd sex fantasy with a lead character.

I used to think all fan fiction was monumentally stupid. Until my friend pointed out that D&D is essentially interactive fan fiction. Now, I'm conflicted.

So true.

The biggest issue I have always had is people using terms from the games. They use them like they are writing a script for a game/book/film/whatever rather than a story of it's own.

For example if you were writing a Gears of War Fanfic:

"Marcus walked over to the twitching body of his wounded enemy before ending it's life by the heel of his boot."

sounds much better than

"Marcus then curb stomped the downed locust." <--- This is what it's usually like.

(The bold is highlighting the gaming term)
