Doesn't matter if its league or on a school team, or if you used to play it but don't any longer. But I'm talking legit sports...competitive. No 'wet tee shirt judge' answers or the like...cause we know thats a given.

I'd put more on the list...Martial arts, swimming, lacross, cricket...that sorta thing...but I don't have any more room on the poll. So let us know what your favorite to play is and why.

(I searched for this topic...but couldn't find a 'favorite sport to play I.R.L.' thred. Very unusual...so have at 'er)

Personally I'm partial to ultimate frisbee, or just throwing a disc in general. I enjoy badminton on occasion, and basketball on a very rare occasion. I'm a big fan of rock climbing though I suppose that's not exactly a "legit, competitive" sport.

In terms of practical exercise I'm a big fan of biking. I live in Montreal where there's plenty of biking going on (though not near as much as, say, Amsterdam) and it gets me places faster than the metro, while providing exercise and a great feeling of accomplishment upon arriving at a destination.

Finally, if you will allow me to stretch the definition of sports into absurdity, my favorite "sport" is 8-ball. I've been a poolhall junky for a couple years now. My close friend and I play on a weekly basis, which will sadly end soon because he'll be very busy with a kid on the way and all. It's competitive to be sure, it involves a pretty intense dexterity and hand-eye coordination, though I suppose that it doesn't really count as a sport.

I suppose the reason the thread hasn't been done before is that people who spend their time on internet forums aren't really that into sports. It's a massive generalization that I don't really believe all that much, but it's a possibility.

Lacrosse. I played hockey for 13 years but ever since I started lacrosse it's been my favorite.

Hockey. Although I can't skate worth shite and I always end up being the only Yank on the ice.
If it seems fun and people aren't taking it too seriously I'll usually give it go.

I love Handball. I don't know if anyone really knows about it, but it was my favorite sport(and still is if I ever get a chance to play anymore) to play. There is just so much skill involved and it really depends on your endurance/stamina as well. Great workout. It kept me so fit when I used to play.

Very stereotypically Canadian in the fact that I like the three Canadian made sports: Hockey, Basketball and Lacrosse

Darts counts on some small level. People play it in a league, don't they? Anyway... I get to throw sharp things. What's not to love?

Australian Rules Football. So much fun and such a physical challenge. Basketball is good too.

Badminton and boxing.

I love being able to be a contender with my light build. It's really good for the old self esteem.

I play a lot of football(soccer) so I pretty much had to vote for that, simply on how much time I've spent playing. I used to play rugby as well and I also play squash from time to time.
Also, does snowboarding count? I don't do it competitively but it's still a sport....
