Hey guys, there might be another thread like this, but I would like this thread to be for people who like to talk about music and people who like multiple kinds of music. Just add in what kinds of music you like, and place things/experiences that you had with music.

My best experience has to be pulling up next to a panda car at some lights discreetly smoking a join, putting on my sunglasses and blazing away into the sunset to "walk on the wild side", doesnt get any better than that when your 19

Dont really know why but it made me feel like a million dollars

Another one is laying on the floor of my friends appartment with a projector showing the itunes visualiser when the wheezer cover of velouria by the pixies came on, never gonna forget that one

Metal. It was my first love, it'll be my last. I'm into plenty other genres, but none so much as metal.

Rock/Metal for me. I love some Dream Theater and Pink Floyd. Classical is good as well, something I may have brought over from learning violin. Beethoven, Vivaldi, and the rest are such awesome musicians...

Oh man

used to be rock/metal no contest

but I listen to a lot of hip hop now, although I haven't listened to it for long enough to call it my favourite genre

electronic music too. but although there are some sides of the genre I love (mostly the good side of dubstep) there are other parts I hate

and most of my favourite bands are from genres I otherwise don't like that much

I honestly can't decide :\

"Too much to stick to one" it is

Classical music will always be my favorite kind of music ever.

I do like my rock and metal, and some ambient music like Amon Tobin, but not as much as classical like Bach and the gang.

I mostly listen to metal, but I also like a lot of classic rock, and I have a fondness for classical. I've also started listening to some electronic, but I find that there's only a limited amount of it that I actually like.

Voted rock/metal.

Mostly stuff from the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

When I was in high school I mostly listened to metal. Stuff like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc.

These days I mostly listen to classic rock though. Boston, The Who, The Rolling Stones, etc.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Prog-Rock though. Listening to Alan Parsons Project right now.

He's a baroque composer, excuse me! *arrogant sniff* =P

Having said that... I'm listening to this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXS5c6TXhKo], beautiful stuff...

Anyway, I'm curious as to why you equate 'classical' with 'Schoenberg'... atonality is one of the most divisive things in lay musical viewership... no disrespect to him, but I find most of the music of his ilk to be crap.

In so saying: favourite composers include (but are not limited to): Johann Sebastian Bach (like the good Fiz); his musical sparring partner for a brief time Frederick II; Georg Handel; Robert Schumann; Johannes Brahms; Felix Mendelssohn; Ludwig van Beethoven... huh... I like a lot of German music, it seems. -_-

EDIT: My apologies... didn't read the 'includes ppl like' properly... v_v

Only if you want to get really technical about it. :p

Baroque is my favorite and Romantic is a close second since it has the most beautiful music I've ever heard.

Also, I do love me some Chopin, and I totally read the music as it was playing. Those accidentals. :D

Any excuse to nitpick... though I'm increasingly disliking the blanket term of 'classical'... 'tis most... philistine(!) -_-

Likewise, though my second is a toss up between Classical and romantic, since there's plenty of chamber music out there I like... plus Schubert!

This [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWks04k-gNM] one is debatably even more difficult. DX

I'm not a fan of it either. I've never said that blanket term with my orchestra peeps since we use that term appropriately. Everyone else?

I'm correcting them more often now. :/

Schubert is awesome. His Unfinished Symphony is one of my favorites.

Presto...accidentals everywhere...key changes...double sharps. DX

I got tired just reading that, and I think I'd laugh if I was told to play that on my violin.

Oh, orchestra days... haven't been in an orchestra for years... I'd probably end up like my sister, though... playing the viola and sightreading on concert days! =P

Awesome piece, regardless... and I wouldn't even contemplate playing it on the violin... eesh... it'd be murder for three violinists to play it!

And now, I'll embed this because Maxim Vengerov's performance is probably the best version:

Listen from 2:20 ish (when the fugue starts).

I would make a joke about Viola players, but I'll be nice and refrain from doing so. :p

You weren't kidding. That is probably the best version I've heard of the Toccata and Fugue on the violin.

Thanks for that!

Look at this fucking hipster.

I guess I listen to a lot of 'altenative' music. I've no real musical niche, if I like something I like it, if I don't I don't. Simple as that.

I've been listening to a lot of Grimes and James Blake, lately though. Great stuff.
