I like all Final Fantasy games but I did find a few things about FFXII that didn't make it as great as the others. Example the free roam battle system, liked the game bit system but I really missed the random encounters.

I enjoyed it. I didn't like the Vaan story but everything else was fun. Although some times it felt like an MMO while waiting for a monster to spawn to get a certain weapon or item for a weapon. The combat could have been more fun if they added a weapon skill ability like in FF11 (the real MMO FF).

Nope...it's like a Tolkien novel - lots of detail but ultimately boring. And the characters aren't fun or relatable, except for Han So- oh, sorry, I mean Balthier.

I'm indifferent about the game. The main plot was boring, the weapon/armor/etc system was bad, and the characters chosen (outside of maybe Balthier) were unimaginative or there was no point to them being there. Even the towns were all stale and monsters were repetitive.

Yet I still want to go back to it to fight all the optional bosses and beat everything on the monster bounty list. So there must be something there. If I actually hated the game, I would not have this urge.

Hmm, it's hard to say. . .

I think the battle system was a unique approach to go about it. Rather than the random battle system that most FF gamers had grown used to. The money and licensing system was a pain in the ass to deal with, but got use to it once the game got rolling.

My biggest complaint about this game though, wasn't the story line, (Seen one mad man who wants to rule/destroy the world, you've seen them all.) but actually the characters themselves.

I couldn't connect with ANY of them. Even to the point I can say, that I hated them at times.

Everyone, except maybe for Baltheir or however you spelt his name, felt bland.

No one really liked each other, everyone felt like they were just forced to fight together, because of strenuating circumstances. No inner romances, no loveable characters, NOTHING.

. . .Okay, so I stared at the bunny girl for a second or two, but that pleasure was quickly killed off, when I also noticed her personality was like a bag of salt.

I just didn't like ANY of them and that's my biggesr gripe. Other than that, I think it was a pretty average game. Three out of five for me...

It came out around a time I was really into MMOs, and I really enjoyed it.
I liked the bits where I could explore somewhat and thats not as free in alot of Final Fantasys (yes it is..? I think... Its been awhile since ive played one.)

All I remember is I got killed by a big dinosaur quite early on, and loved it, during the hype.
Ive been planning to replay through it and its thats actually the only reason I still have a dusty PS2.

Yep, best World Design in the series in my opinion, best Music since FF6 as well. Shame the plot wasn't very well told, it could have been the best as well.

I voted no, but I think that has more to do with my changing tastes in games. The first JRPG I played was Final Fantasy X, and I loved it. Sure, it was cheesy as hell, but I enjoyed the story. I also had the ideal flatmate at the time, who would sit and watch me play it every evening, giving his opinion during the lengthy cutscenes, but would never ask for a go himself. It made the whole thing a better experience. Also, I was mainly playing FPSs at the time, so it made a pleasant change of pace.

I've never really got on with JRPGs since, excepting Shadow Hearts II: Covenant. But I was really excited to get Final Fantasy XII. I was disappointed in the main, I didn't find the story that compelling, and didn't really relate to any of the characters. I got as far as the Draklor Laboratory, and that's where my savegame remains.

But, as I said, that's probably got more to do with me going off JRPGs than the quality of the game itself. I don't have much free time any more, and as a result, I find the grind quite tiresome. I'll probably get Final Fantasy XIII, but that'll be the last chance I give to the Final Fantasy series.

I'm several hours into the game (about to head to some kind of tomb), and I honestly abhor it. I dislike all the main characters. I haven't touched it in a couple weeks, so I might pick it up again later tonight. But, I'm finding myself sloughing through this game; I'm not enjoying it, so far.

Most main characters were boring, and there was a whole lot of grinding, and the story wasn't that good written. It was a good idea to include politics and war, but it didn't get me interested enough.

Story was awful. The characters had no kind of development and when they did it felt clunky.

In an early point in the game we find out that Basch suposedly killed Vaan's brother. You can understand if he's ticked off. But Vaan forgave Basch far too quickly. It was virtually like this:

Vaan: You killed my brother
Basch: No I didn't
Vaan: Ok

Apart from the above their was no reason for Vaan to even be along with them. Considering what an annoying character he was I'm surprised Balthier didn't hurl him out the airships door in flight. And frankly Penelo was only along because she was following Vaan.

I really couldn't feel like I could support the whole cause that they were fighting for. I really couldn't stand Ashe because she didn't seem anymore likeable than Vayne as a character. Balthier was the only one I really liked, followed by Fran, because they actually seemed to have more to them than a 2d cardboard cutout Basch: "I must redeem my honour" or in fact any other character.

The lack of a world map has been bugging me since FF9 and I really want to see it make a return. And I'm not talking about 10's "Tell us a location and we'll go there". I want to fly the airship myself damnit!! It annoyed me that Balthier has an airship but we can't fly it!

That aside, I liked what they did with the battle system. It was interesting to see how they are progressing and while it's not perfect it was interesting. The weapons and armour system was different and not to my taste but it wasn't totally crap. Seeing Penelo wielding a gun bigger than her was pretty funny. The monster encounters system was interesting but could be enhanced by having some random encounters i.e. Stuff jumping from trees and such.

I could go on, but I felt that it was ruined by the chronic story, and frankly that is what I play an RPG for.

Edit: Also Gilgamesh was fantastic!!

I agree with everything [b/]especially[/b] that part. It was a far cry from the profound plot of FFX.

It was addictive enough to make me perfect it, which was a *****. So I'd say I enjoyed it, but I don't think it's the best in the series.
