So I pre-ordered my copy weeks ago and dutifully picked it up this morning at the local GameStop. Of course, then I had to work a bit, so I've only played through my origin. But I have to say, I'm already impressed. I generally know ten minutes in or so whether I'll like a game, and this one had me gripped from the opening frames. What does everything think so far? Impressed? Disappointed? Indifferent? Also, what origin did you choose, as that might make a different.

For my first run, I picked an elven Mage. I favor caster-types, and the oppressed background of the elves intrigued me. Without spoiling anything, I just want to say I can already see more shades of gray in this game than any previous BioWare title. The opening choices were not always easy to make, and the removal of the Good/Evil bar means you can really roleplay however you want. All in all, I wish I could play for longer, and I'm excited to see more of this game.

My first thoughts, "Fuck, I can't wait until I get my new PC so I can have a proper view on it!"

I played the Mage introduction and thought it was great and even reloaded back 20 minutes to avoid doing something I didn't want too. Sadly I think I've already seen the best part of the game with the travel message. "Do you wish to gather your party and venture forth?" I love old game references :)

3 More days for the European release. 16 more days for European PS3 release, apparently.
I would go first as Humon noble or Dwarven Peasant.
Not sure whether I should call the Dwarf Siegfried or Boris... Oh well still ages of time to ponder before any decisions can be made.

Does anyone have the 360 version? If so, how is it?
I do! My PC can't handle this game (it does well only with NWN and Baldur's Gate), so I bought it for the 360. The only thing is, I can't connect to Live at the moment, so my first playthrough will have to be without Shale or the Blood Dragon Armor, not to mention the pre-order bonuses I got through GameStop. But anyway, the graphics are good, the combat is smooth, and even playing as a mage the spell effects are cool but not distracting. The real-time combat is fast-paced, but really favors the pause button for tactics.

Anyway, it looks great on my plasma, so I'm a happy camper.

Played through one origin so far, I already love this game. The story is compelling and well written, the role playing feels really natural. What I like is that there is no good or evil meter, just choices and consequences. Like the elf I rolled hates humans but feels a strong sense of pride to the clan. So while some of my actions seem harsh and evil, others are compassionate and with good intent. I don't feel like I'm being punished for being in the middle, rather the story shapes around how I choose to play. I was a bit worried about getting this for the consoles but my fears are at rest. The controls are solid and the combat is fun. I can already tell this game is going to suck a large chunk of my free time.
