So, I just finished watching the Jimquisition, and I was curious: If Microsoft does go through with the Always Online idea, will you buy the 720?

This is a question for people who bought either a Xbox or a 360.....

Me personally, no I won't buy it because I have had a connection cut out on me too often while playing on a console to even contemplate such action, I bought the 360 but not the original Xbox.

I probably wasn't gonna buy it anyway, but now 'probably' can be replaced with 'abso-fucking-lutely'.

As it stands, not for years after launch if at all. My internet usually cuts out once or twice a day needing a hard reset on both modem and router, sometimes it will be fine for longer periods but why put myself through such extra hassle for a £500 console? Playstation 4 is the obvious choice.

Playing the "What-if" game is just stupid.

I'm simply going to wait until when the console spec's are finalized for its release to make any decision.

I won't be buying a nextbox regardless. I got a console instead of springing for a graphics/sound (my current one isn't Windows compatible) card and a copy of Windows because I didn't want to deal with the bullshit in PC gaming. Since MS has been perfectly happy to allow hew innovations in bullshit into console gaming (not even a next console thing, stuff like 'free' DLC and online passes that infringe on my right of first sale), I'll be going the PC route this gen (and maybe a WiiU, haven't really looked at its offers yet).

Well i never adopt a new console until at least 1 year into it's life cycle. The main reason is that launch games are generally rubbish and it takes time for the devs to learn how to use the hardware to it's potential. After I'm not the wealthiest person in the world so I like to snag a bargain when the price goes down.

last console I owned was the Playstation. When it was just that, "Playstation". And I plan to stick to this.

This also outlines my level of interest about the 720 or anything about it. Apart from the new Kinect, that is. This I DO want!

Yup, maybe not when it's first out but, yeah, probably. I've played XboX since the first one and I do very much love it. If it does have always online DRM (and I pray it doesn't) it won't be too bad for me cuz I have a consistently good connection so there's that...

No actually, playing the "What if" game in this sense is called market research.

If there is a big enough negative response to the "always online" console idea, Microsoft will realize that they won't reach target sales numbers and will drop the idea.

Probably not. Between the whole online thing, and the fact that my 360 crapped out on me three times now, I think I'm done with Microsoft in terms of gaming consoles.

No, but it has nothing to do with the always on system or anything of the sort. I honestly couldn't care less about that. I've just stopped playing consoles entirely. I sold my television, and do everything on my PC now. So I simply don't have a use for the new XBox. If I did, I probably would buy one.

I bought an X-Box and an X-Box 360, but I won't be buying the next X-Box console.

I was kinda on the fence about getting the next X-Box. I'm primarily a PC gamer, but I like to have at least one console around anyway. Between the X-Box 360's lack of interesting exclusives (to me), the system's constant tech problems (had multiple systems red ring), and now the next system's always-on requirement... yeah... I'm pretty certain that if I buy a console this generation it won't be another X-Box.

If the always online rumours are true? No way in hell.

If they're not? We'll see how it goes. Entice me Microsoft.

Ooh, something just occurred to me:

Microsoft doesn't HAVE to put the always online requirement on their console. They can just make it without a writable harddrive or memory card slots... and make everything work off of a cloud. That way, you're encouraged to be online to save games and achievements... but not actually required. There, no longer do we have to worry about the "always-online" feature.

Eh, even if none of this comes to pass, I still won't be buying the new console. PC gaming from now on...

I'll wait and see. I don't buy any console at launch, it is best to wait to see which system gets the games you want and how reliable it turns out to be (as every 360 owner knows.)

I had a 360 despite there being very few exclusives that I bought for it, so even if the console wasn't an "always online" thing, I'd be on the fence about buying it at the very most.

I really hope they do make it always online, just to see how monumentally the console fails.

As it stands at the moment, Microsoft would have to do something absolutely amazing to get me interested in getting the next xbox. I have had 2 xbox 360s, an elite which crapped out on my twice, forcing me to get it fixed, and a launch console which recently died on me. I have not been at all impressed by the build quality, and more over in the last 2 years the xbox platform has undergone a lot of changes that I find extremely unfavorable to my own personal demands of the console, constantly making the interface worse and worse.

Since it looks like microsoft is going to continue focusing more on gimmicks like Kinect, and making the xbox a "media hub" rather than an actual gaming console there is really nothing there that interests me. If I don't buy the next console I'll miss playing Halo, but that's about it, and I can deal with not playing Halo.

I'm quite happy with Steam, and my PS3 at the moment, and will probably upgrade my PC when the new console cycle comes around, instead of buying one of the new consoles.

I usually buy all the consoles eventually but if it is always online no absolutely not under any circumstances I am not putting up with this gradual lockdown bullshit that Microsoft seems so fond of there comes a point where you just have to say no more. If it also locks games to your system well thats just laughing at you after they have shitted all over you.

I am waiting for confirmation first but any console that does this will never be purchased by me even if it means I have to give up gaming for good.
