I have been debating on getting either a 360, or a PS3. The two main games that attract me to either system have been GT5 and Forza. I was going to get a 360 based on the fact my friends have one so we can play that Halo game online, but the main draw is racing games for me.

I was settled on a 360 and Forza 3 until I read some recent facts that have made the decision harder.

1. GT5 has the WRC (which I love), and Nascar (which is "turning left")
2. GT5 is said to have over 1,000 cars (340 available at launch, more for download [I hate nickel and diming]) while Forza 3 starts with 405 cars and they will probably be making cars for download.
3. Xbox has the better online system
4. The PS3 racing wheel has a clutch and 6 speed gear changer (yes I do know how to drive a manual in real life)
5. This is a bit of a kicker for me, considering I love the show, the Top Gear test track will be in GT5, so me, and others can pretend to be Clarkson and the boys driving around shouting "powwweerrrrrrrr"

There is another thing, recently being discharged from the military I am living with my parents (feel free to laugh, but I could care) and my dad has told me he will be buying a PS3 as soon as we get a HD tv. And considering my friends all have 360's maybe I can have the cake (GT5 AND Forza) and eat it too.

then again, my car could use some ceramic brakes. I hate the black stuff that gets on the rims.

EDIT: I will not have this turn into a "flame war." If intelligent discussion is beyond you all then I will delete it myself. I have played both the 360 and PS3 so I have thoughts on each, but secondary opinions would be valued.

Welcome to the Escapist! We don't like these kinds of threads. But if your father's already considering getting a PS3, you might as well pick up a 360. [sub]Or you could buy a Wii[/sub]

My sister has a Wii, the only game I play on that is Okami, ha. I know these sorts of threads aren't particularly liked, but it seems smart to me to get another opinion before plonking down over 500 dollars for a system, games, and extra hardware (not to mention TV's)

I'd say the Xbox360, just because of your friends. Playing games with your friends is a lot more fun than playing alone. At least in my opinion.

Besides, if your dad is getting a PS3 then you really have no reason not to get a 360 instead.

Kraken, the 360 does make some sense now. "my dad's playing his GT5 account, might as well go play Forza with my friends from across town instead"

Save your money so you can move out of your parents house and make something of your life. Video games can wait.

Seeing as how the apartment landlords around here want at least 1 year of employment history, that's still a ways off.

NEVER BUY A WII!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE GAMES SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the sheer number of exclamation points in those two sentences, I'd guess that you're trolling?
Or being very, very, very sarcastic...but probably not.

OT: Buy the 360 seeing as your dad might be getting a PS3.

Playing with friends is fun.

So you are what, 19-20, and you still don't have a year of employment? Best get to work kiddo, and by the end of the year you should have enough cash to get your own place, hell, maybe even get some of that college edgie-cation.

Set some priorities of what you really need in life.
or just buy videogames. Either way it's up to you.

How?

OT: Go with the 360, for the reasons Kracken said. GT5 isn't out yet so you have time to play with friends before you even start GT.

PS3s are slowly getting more and more exclusives I'm interested in because of my PS consoling youth.

MGS, GT, FF (not exclusive but I don't want to play that on Xbox.)

Yea, I am 19. Saving for college (rather than an apartment) and taking classes at the community college (for journalism), been working for about 3 months and have $1,000 in the bank. I've budgeted for a gaming system, don't worry about that. But with the whole racing game thing, at some point I'll usually just turn the system off and go for a real drive, in my real car (a 1999 Monte Carlo LS [the car was a gift from my entire family after getting discharged {medically}])

ok i'll answer some of the concerns

1 GT5 has a set of wheels you can use, most are made by logitech and can be used on your pc as well, tho they could have updated then ones you can use now

2 the online for the PS3 is just as good AND it's free, so it better

3 the size of the disc will matter, the 360 has already had issues with features in racing games, such as dynamic changing light and weather and such. this will also impact the amount of cars in the game

i'm going to say get yourself the PS3 and GT5, it's over all your better choice for value and usability
