I rented Fracture for the Xbox 360, and I played half of the campaign and some multipalyer before I returned it.
The game is a solid Third Person Shooter. The controls are responsive. The problem I had was with the whole idea of ground weapons. There was a missle that would go into the ground and you had to detonate it when it was near an enemy. It seemed like a cool idea at first, but trying it in multiplayer, it had little use. It only went in one direction and opponets could easily side step the missle. I aslo had a hard time finding another gun that shot bullets besides a single shot weapon called the "Raptor." I found a weapon that shot a vortex and dragged enemies into one spot, but it didn't really do any damage. There was also another weapon where it would turn into a ball of earth and roll down the terrain running over anyone in it's path. The grenades were different aswell. There was a vortex grenade that sucked in everyone it could and then exploded. Two sonic grenades that would raise or lower the ground after it exploded. And the spike grenades that made a tower of earth rise from the ground adn lift you up higher to reach broekn building to grab new weapons.
Most importantly, the ground itself. Lowering and raising the ground seems like a cool idea, but the way it efected the entire game was a little lack luster. It effected the double jump by raising the land you were just stepping on which mad eit harder for people to shoot the person. There is a meter to show how much energy your ground distorting device (don't know the name) but the double jump did not reduce any of the energy. So half the time during multiplayer people were just jumping up and down trying to get from Point A to Point B taking minimum damage. Taking cover behind the ground was a very good idea and was well executed.
The campaign tried to use the ground for puzzles but ultimately they were too easy except for one which was very unclear. I happen to be inside a facility where the hint pointed to a door that was over cement and I took that as you had to open it with ground spike. I looked everywhere for an opening to get through but sadly I could not find it. I had to return it that day so I turned it off and left. Another puzzle had me guid explosives into pipes using the terrain under it. I thought it was well executed because if you had it bounce too much it would explode and if your slop was off the bomb would roll in that direction.
The multiplayer had the expected material (capture the flag, free for all, team death match) and I didn't really get to play anything else in it. The single player campaign had enough variation in enemies that kept me from getting bored but most of the puzzles were: throw a spike grenade here to raise bridge or push the ground so you can get over or under this fence. Overall the game was average with a push towards a new direction, but falls over repitition of puzzles and slightly useless weapons.
