simple question, do you think using the best IRL equipment (monitors, headset's, controller's e.c.t) and/or the best in game equipment in online multilayer fair or unfair?

Besides binding keys to certain scripts, I don't think there's that much more that IRL equipment has to offer. Better sound, a more comfortable grip on your mouse, a less clunky keyboard, and a HD monitor to watch your organs get macerated out of your nose in the best quality isn't going to be much more of a help. Thus, it isn't really unfair.

Unbalanced in-game equipment is pretty unfair, but I haven't decided what to feel about better real-life equipment.

Better real-life equipment is reasonable, and isn't really unfair, whereas unbalanced in-game equipment is pretty unfair, although that's to blame on the creators of the game itself.

Well, better RL equipment does in theory help you out, but it's not like it magically makes ppl better at games. So, for instance, someone with a headset is going to have a slight edge in a game where situational awareness matters, but they'll still get wrecked by someone with better map knowledge or a bigger advantage from the crappy netcode. Or someone with a good mouse might experience a slight accuracy boost with the chainguns in Tribes: Ascend, but they're still going to lose to someone who is better at prediction and jetpack management.

A better mouse can have a massive impact, mainly in FPS and RTS. It can completely ruin your chances at success if you have a bad one.

Don't understand poll, but yes those affect gameplay in MP. If you can't afford them or don't care to research them, get a new hobby.

it's a bit like a push-pull, while there is give in some areas, it can be taken from others. both IRL and in game equipment can have certain advantages like a headset increasing situational awareness in a multiplayer situation but having few map skills or unaware of the maps details can be a real killer in game. having more responsive mouse and keyboard can improvement and accuracy, but if you don't have the properly developed requisite skills, it won't matter. It's stuff like that

Yes, both matter

For real life we have..
-Connection Issues (Slower internet=Lag=RAGEEEEEEEEE)
-HeadSets Or "Sound Whoring" A good headset in an FPS can make the difference of where said person is. While the common speaker won't pick up said footsteps.
-Graphic Cards, as in the frame rate drops in the middle of a battle, and the person can't react while the person with the 3k$ rig runs on ultra fine, even if they are less skilled.
-Monitor/TV, More things on screen in a given time, or more clear visuals

In Game
-Mainly Balance issues.
-Pay to win models.
-Gameplay boils down to who can exploit what the fastest.
-Game diversity dies

-----
All in all, the players skill only make up so much of there game-play.

"Best IRL" - I think you'll find that dependant on the person, this is negligible.

My friend has a screen 20" smaller than mine, yet he's just as good at Halo as me for the most part, even better with a sniper.

Another friend has a screen 20" bigger than mine, and surround sound, but gets his ass kicked on battlefield regularly.

That's just 2 examples, but I could give you 10 more, easily. The main difference is the virtual advantages IE: If a game's not balanced, it doesn't give everyone equal opportunity, some people could have an advantageous item or something.

With real life "advantages", it's dependant on how used to it you are. I would play worse on a bigger screen, or on a different controller, or with higher sensitivity than my usual - but no matter what physical advantage you have it's all about skill.
Unless you're accommodating "cheats" such as physically modified controllers or virtually modified game files into this question. You weren't clear.

I think if you start trying to justify your loss with "but the other person had better equipment than me" you are being a sore loser. Go shell out for the top of the line equipment if winning means that much to you. Next you'll be telling me it's unfair for one person to have more skill and experience at the game...
