Recently I was playing gears 2 and found that it wasn't any fun due to lag and to much chainsaw, so I started playing the first one and realized how much better it is. In multiplayer if the game starts to lag it stops every body so you can't lagswitch, your guns aren't nurfed beyond belief, and the maps are better. What do you guys think.

Horde was good but it got boring after you beat it over and over because all you have to do is camp hard.
I liked Gears 2 a good bit better, though you must bear in mind that I've never played either title online. I'm going only by the campaign.
I didn't play much multiplayer on either but I found both single player campaigns to be about equal. The sequel did just enough extra to give me the same amount of enjoyment as the first.
Gears 1 had far superior multiplayer than the sequel.

Gears 2 is a great improvement over Gears 1, not that Gears 1 was a bad game (it's a great game). The single player campaign for Gears 2 won me over so much that I rank the game as one of my top 10 favorites (the only 360 game on that list considering I don't own a 360). Bear in mind that I was only able to play the game because one of my hallmates let me play the game on his 360 and I never was able to play the multiplayer. But I still think that Gears 2 is the better game.
I like Gears 1 and 2 for their campaigns. Gears 2 had a better campaign than the first one, but they are both undeniably good.
Gears 2 has a much more fun and varied campaign in my view.
The pacing is much better and it builds you up and gets you excited.

honestly co op gow1 >>>>>>>> co op gow2 BUT horde mode made gow2 rape especially with the bots and whatnot on multi
so its mostly a tie, but i put way more time into goW 1 than 2

Gears two definitly had some problems with the Multiplayer, but I loved the campaign. I thought it was awesome and leagues ahead of the first one.
Also, quite a few of the maps in Gears of War 2 are either copies or similar to Gears of War 1 maps.
(Gridlock,Canals,Mansion,Tyro Station, War machine and Subaway all make an appearence in Gears of war 2 after all, and 4 of those 6 maps are my favorite from the last game)

just sayin gears 2 doesn't have the kryll, berserkers, RAAM, a good corpser fight, a brumak fight (PC). Boss fights in gears 2 way 2 easy I mean a button mash fight against the locust leader, and the Hydra was way to easy even on insane.
