Clearly I'm just ignorant of racing games, and their place in the grand scheme of things, they're obviously more niche than I thought.

I was fairly disappointed to find out EB Games (Game Stop) weren't doing a mid-night launch for Gran Turismo 6, I just assumed 'well of course they would be', I'm going to call up tomorrow and check, but I have a friend who works there, and there isn't anyone rostered on for that time (mid-night) at my local store, so its pretty safe to assume it isn't.

So I started wondering, how many people here are getting it?

I'm sure most will say No, but would be interesting to see how many people here are, and if they too would think its a large enough portion/ large enough game to deserve one.

Nah.

Not big on racing games. If I do play them, I prefer the arcade-ish kind where you can throw things at the opposition and never have to take your finger off the accelerate button..

A nope from me.

I think Gran Turismo may have alienated a lot of people in the last generation. Making people wait for ages just because the creator wanted to fiddle with it some more, releasing a glorified demo as a peace offering. All the while Forza was waiting with open arms.

I was never a racing fan though so maybe I'm totally off.

I have to see how the purported microtransactions play out - if they are anything like Forza 5, no way.

A yes from me, though probably not day one. I've never been big into racing games, but despite that I've always enjoyed Gran Turismo, ever since the very first one when I was but a tot.

Nah. I've never been a big fan of the Gran Turismo games, I've always preferred Forza.

Maybe when it's dirt cheap.

I think it's kinda stupid that it got released just days before the PS4 came out, I would love to see GT on the PS4. Guess we gotta wait for GT7 though!

Question: is it possible to play the Gran Turismo games without having to customize and toggle settings before each race? I know nothing about cars, which is why I've stayed away from the series since the first one. I could be interested in trying it out again though, but only if it's possibly to race (and actually have a good performance) without having to bother with all sorts of settings. Basically, play it more like an arcade racer.

I know nothing about cars either but still got the ''sky high roller'' trophy for GT5, so yeah it's definitely possible. :p The only thing you really need to think about is soft or hard tires depending on the track. The rest is just weight reduction/power increase to make the car accelerate faster and have an overall better performance and handling. Basically it just comes down to racing to earn credits for upgrades for every new car.

I prefer arcade racers as well but the car handling in GT is unmatched imo. If you love cars this game is heaven but otherwise it can get pretty boring. Tracks are bland and boring and its a huge step back from more sensational racers. The design philosophy for GT remains as traditional as it can get. I personally always considered it more of an interactive car glossy than an actual game. I like GT for what it is but would only consider buying it if there was an option that would unlock all the cars from the start. GT5 was way too much of a grindfest. I now have neither the time nor the inclination to go through that arduous ordeal again.

The question for me is whether or not the game can be completed without a racing wheel. The Sixaxis analog controls for throttle in GT have always left me wanting something different, but I just can't bring myself to pay for a wheel. The problem in my opinion is that it's nearly impossible to maintain a steady speed using a handheld controller as the inputs limit you to coasting, braking, or accelerating, which is nothing like driving in real life. (Imagine driving to the store while flooring it the entire way.) I tried it out on Forza and it was a little better, but not much. If I do buy GT6 it'll be because it's shiny-shiny, and when I want to have fun I'll fire up any one of the DiRT games.

While I do love racing games and the Gran Turismo series in general?.

I really don't wanna buy a new PS3 game 3 weeks after I purchased a PS4. They should have taken the time to port it over.

Hopefully I won't have to wait long for GT7 on the PS4.

Eh, I might if it comes down in price after a while. I have a love/hate relationship with them- I admire the realism, but I can't help but feel that it makes it a bit less exciting. I can't deny that I would much prefer the game if there was a bit less fucking understeer on every car, and the tire wear is a bit of a piss take sometimes, however accurate. Still, lots of shiny cars, and fiddling with tuning is fun.

Honestly... not really interested. I bought GT5 for close to full price, and have given about 3 hours of time to it. I find the way it handles and feels just tedious. I prefer the handling on Forza. I might buy Forza Horizon.

Not interested in micro-transactions so I'm not interested in the game.

Maybe when the price is way down. I'm just not as big of a fan of racing games as I used to be.

I'm a fan of the GT series but GT5 didn't really click for me.

I'm going to wait for the reviews before I make a purchasing decision.

I will be picking it up, but it seems rather counter-intuitive to buy a game for the PS3 whilst I've just spent a large sum for a PS4. At least it gives me a chance to break out the GT steering wheel once again (yes I am that sad I own a PS3 steering wheel).

Hmm, its interesting hearing the concerns with the game, I share most of them.

In terms of crash physics, its kind of not relevant to me, maybe they should put in more effort, but the realism 'before' the crash is what is important to me, i.e. 98% of the time I'm driving straight, accelerating, decelerating, and/or turning left or right, the dynamics of how that feels is thousands of times more important than what the car looks or feels like when I make a mistake.

But yeah, I did sort of want GT6 on PS4, and its so weird for them to put it on PS3, without prior understanding of their development strategy, and its the case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing as well, PD (who make the GT series) are owned by Sony, but didn't know the PS4 would be coming out in 2013, when they planned on releasing GT6 (~3 years after GT5). And to make up for the investment into GT5, they're basically rejazzing it up (quite a lot) and releasing GT6 as new software on the same platform.

Good news is, for those who cbb buying a PS3 game if they have a PS4/XB1, GT7 will apparently be out in as little as 12-18 months.

Even the responses of the people here who like racing games a little show how much more niche the GT series has become, people going to Forza, or NFS, ect, people who want to have the sensations of driving as job 1 seem to be dwindling - good to see there's 11 others out there who will, hope you guys enjoy it :D
