I bought Saint's Row 2 a few months ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found it really fun to play, and the story was engaging enough for me to care about it. I also like the city, I continued the game after I finished the story just to drive around and occassionally do some side quests

I've seen it referred to as the anti-GTA IV, as it completely does away with any semblance of realism, which is obviously one of GTA IV's main selling points. I'd been told that GTA IV was a really good game, so I borrowed it from a friend, and have to say that I actually found the realism worsened the gameplay. I'm used to GTA games where it takes quite a bit to actually kill you, and I found GTA IV quite difficult because of the realism in it, and enjoyed the game less

So my question is, do you prefer the realism of GTA IV, or the unrealism of Saint's Row 2?

Saint's Row 2, no contest.

I preferred it when Rockstar made sillier sandbox games.

Cant say much, its great to have games that are the opposite of each other. They are both good in their own ways. If at the moment I want crazy fun I go for Saints Row 2, if I want a realistic getaway I go for GTAIV

GTA IV

I loved the first Saint's Row, but the sequel went a little overboard with the customization wich seriously hurt the overall quality.

The characters (in the first two acts) and story (most of it) in GTA IV were much more entertaining than in Saint's Row 2. Also, dicking around in Liberty City was awesome.

Gta 4, it looked better, it played better and everything was just higher quality.
I love saints row 2, but I loved the GTA4 story. But I seem to be the only one who likes the serious tone of the new game.

Better radio: GTA IV

GTA IV's radio jokes were actually FUNNY.

Better gameplay: Saint's Row 2

GTA IV isn't realistic (at all, people), it's just more realistic than previous GTA games.

Anyway, here are the issues that I have with GTA IV:

- The cover system is sluggish at best
- The shooting/combat feels weak
- Other than a couple of them, none of the characters are funny, interesting or deep (and they're definitely all arse holes)
- In keeping with that, Niko's a big ugly hypocrite
- No in-mission save point (I know this got fixed in the DLC)
- It's so unrelentingly satirical it's almost satirising itself
- The story is poorly paced and told
- The inventory is shit
- Niko has a TURNING CIRCLE
- Helicopters are a nightmare to control
- It's either too easy to escape the cops (there have been times where I've slowed down to let them catch me up) or totally impossible
- Weapons are locked for ages, so you can't even go on a decent rampage for a good portion of the game
- The social mini-games are shit, yet you have to do them before people will do stuff for you (weapons car, taxis, bombs, etc.)
- It's ugly as sin and the blur to cover up jagged lines actually affects gameplay. In one of the only times where the mobile phone is made properly useful, I needed to ring a guy's number so that he'd pick up his phone so I could snipe him through the window. Only the blur was so thick that I couldn't read the number on his phone properly; I ended up having to look on a website to see what the number was!

I haven't actually played the first Saint's Row, but I assumed it would be pretty much the same but with less of everything. Is that an incorrect assumption?

Did you not find dicking around in Stilwater fun?

Who the hell clicked GTA4?! SR2 by fair is the better game.

Also, SR2 hosts some of the greatest character personalitys ever.

Benjamin King: She tells everything to her fashion consultant, he shouldn't be too hard to break.
Johnny Gat: Who is this guy?
Benjamin King: Some Eurotrash ************ named Stefan.
Johnny Gat: I hate him already.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

And a mini-game tastefully referred to as "Ho-ing"

And more than one side quest where you shoot poop at houses.
And an ending that literally tells you to do whatever you want all the time.

I'd have to disagree, I absolutely love the radio on Saint's Row 2. The stations are actually diverse, there's literally something for everyone. Don't like hip hip? No problem, have some Lamb of God to listen to. Don't like this modern stuff? Here's a station dedicated to 80s music

I feel that the radio stations on GTA games are far too limited, whereas Saint's Row 2 has a very wide range of music on offer

There is more variety in SR2, but I was referring to the commercials, mostly.

Ah, well fair point then, I'll concede that the commercials are much better in GTA games

Saints Row 2, it's just plain and simple, 'ole fashioned fun.

Like ball in a cup, but better. And with guns.

Saint's Row gets the nod just due the fact that the things that make the GTA type games fun (driving around, pissing cops off, trashing things) are actually minigames and give a little bit of meaning to the things we like to do.

GTA4 gets better I think when you add Lost and the Damned. Johnny is an awesome prick.
