I'm going to be honest: despite claiming to be a gamer I don't play as much as I want.
I play about 5 hours a week. Up to 20 if I don't have any school during the week, and I prioritize school, outdoors time, and time playing music over playing games. Therefore I usually play only one game at a time. I feel like I'm being hated for being a casual gamer. Because all I play most of the time is the Sims 3 and whatever I feel like playing (currently it is Warframe), and people are throwing hatred on me all the time, especially fourms that are not this fourm and the Cyberpunk 2077 fourm.
They tell me that I am a noob. Saying that I am a filthy casual and prick for complaining about a situation where I'm trying the best to win but we still win. The community hates on me because I enjoy playing the Sims 3 which is published by EA and is regarded as a "girls game" (I am a straight male FYI)claiming that I have sad and have no life. I try to be strong willed, but I feel that this hate is not going to stop.

I'm only 15. I might not have realized yet that the world is full of people who will hate me, and I might be misguided the whole time. What is your opinion? If the gaming community really that bad with regards to others who spend less time with gaming

I don't know if this Extra Credits video is helpful to this topic, but it is worth showing if you have not seen it yet: http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/toxicity

One thing you will sadly learn rather quickly the more time you spend online is that the world has a lot of idiots living in it. Another thing you will learn quickly is that people are pretty much the same everywhere.

You say that you get criticised for the games you like and how much time you spend? That kind of thing happens everywhere. Support the wrong sports team? Don't like that new band? Aren't up to date on the current celebrity? People will act like there is a problem with you.

The best thing to do is remember that what you like is your business. If what you like and what you do is not harming anybody (as well as what you don't do and don't like), then it has nothing to do with anybody else and if anybody seriously has a problem with that, then there is not point getting worked up about it, because they are not worth your time.

Enjoy the games you like, it's your time and money so to hell with anybody who looks down on you for it, it's not like you play games to please them.

well played Legion...
Welp...one post in and we have ourselves the winning grand slam. I guess I should just go home now? :)

OT: I game...a lot. Like....a lot a lot. I am constantly shot at by gamers of this very community (indirectly or directly) because I don't like the right games (Love me some Madden/Call of Duty and shit plus fan really collide when I talk about how much I liked ME3's original ending :D). Hardcore or casual; people are going to lash out at you for doing it wrong.

You can't please everyone. If they tell you that you are dumb/not a real gamer/hated for liking X game instead of Y game, fuck'em; who the hell are they that you have to "prove" your gamerness to them?

As you get older, you'll learn not to take this kind of comments so seriously. I doubt it's actual hate - probably just ridicule.

Yes, defending a game like The Sims 3 on a hardcore gaming forum will get negative comments - there's nothing wrong with you playing it, or with others judging you for it (your choice of games does say something about you after all - not necessarily something negative).

People who actually call you names aren't really worth your time and shouldn't get to you.

You beat me to it you bastard xD

OT: I just ignore the whole hardcore/casual thing, it's stupid. Oh noes, other people can't spend more time playing games so therefore they are lesser gamers... Yeah.... no

They're just being mean to be mean. The internet gives people the feeling of invulnerability, that no one can touch them or hurt them. So you get a lot of people that are going to hate on you for no good reason and it's a same. I like to think in a perfect world us gamers should embrace everyone and have civil conversations about all types of games. That will never happen because of different opinions and views on everything, along with that feeling of invulnerability.
Enjoy what you like to play and don't let anyone else tell you other wise, because games are about having fun. Don't let others stop you from having fun, just pretend they're jealous of your super sweet sim house. I bet it's three stories and has two bedrooms and a pool. My sim houses always look awful and square.

Those epeen guy's are dicks especially the type that won't give noobs a chance to learn. That said high level competitive players tend to want to play amongst themselves and a noob can ruin their playtime, so I recommend looking for players of your own level and style of play, even if that means passing over some games in favour of others. If you want to mix it up with high level players look for short matches.

However shit talkers and ppl who are up their own arse are ever present and a scourge on MP. I guess growing up playing Street Fighter 2 in the arcades has made me to respect my opponent / co-op buddy because A) credit's cost real money so we all need to get their moneys worth and have fun, B) That person can punch you in the face.

EDIT

I will give you a word of advice when dealing with hardcore gamer forums, it's all rather basic 101 stuff but worth a mention anyway since you seem to be having trouble. First is that there are unique landmines that will annoy ppl when you complain about something, while it might seem harmless to an outsider it might be a bone of contention among long term members especially if it's a common complaint they've repeatedly deal with.

Also they don't like scrubs, I know alot of noobs and casual gamers get called the word but there is a difference those have little motivation for improvement AND moan and make up excuses. Often such behaviour is often seen as poisonous if it's a competitive forum you might be told to GTFO. In short it's probably best to avoid complaining too much when you;re new ppl tend to takeit the wrong way.
