I know we've all seen dramatic scenes in movies alike, where something happens that just makes you go: "...wow." One that I remember was a scene where a suicide bomber pretends to be a policeman, as to draw people to him. To quote Yahtzee: "That scene gripped me by the bellend."

I recently played Homefront* and all those scenes that were supposed to make my heart weep tears (which I would've gotten checked out) with all those "dramatic" scenes ( nicely summarized: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/critical-miss/8755-Critical-Miss-Connor-Morgan). They came off as obnoxious and trying too hard. I was also pissed at the overall "America=good, any other country= Darth Vader x Skeletor.

I may also be because movies use actual people. Games are still using depictions of people that are easy to discern from the real thing, so who touched you more?

*Their publishers are arrogant ponces who deserve a swift kick in the nuts.

Games.

Partly because I barely watch movies any more, partly because I stumbled onto a genre of game that specifically aims for such, and for someone who's already rather sentimental like me, hits pretty hard.

There have been moments in the Final Fantasy series, definitely. And also events such as coming out of the Vault for the first time in Fallout 3.

Movies used to touch me more when I was a child but now games. Heck western movies/series stand no chance to touch me (unless you count comedy).

Oh name of this VN please?
Also hm...I don't mean to be nitpicking but can we count Visual novels as games? I mean...Sure it is interactive but I think it's more like a book where you can control what happens...with music...and graphics...and sometimes voice actors...Ok I don't really know to be honest so let's say we can count them as games.

I'd say this. The part in FFVI
where Cyan sees his dead family getting on a train
got to me, but then quite a few moments in that game did. Goddamn Kefka.

Also the ending of FFX got me bad. The visuals, the music, the event, it was really well done.

Kana: Little Sister. That image links to my review of it.

It's a more convenient label, and the interactivity and immersion they offer resembles text-based adventure games more than actual novels, so I feel comfortable considering them as games.

Depends on just how interactive they are, of course. K:LS is more of a game than, say, <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.146260-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Heart-de-Roommate>Heart de Roommate (where the player has precious little overt effect on the story world), but probably much less of one than <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.139628-TYPE-MOON-reviews-Kagetsu-Tohya>Kagetsu Tohya (practically a sandbox game in VN format) or <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.252998-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Princess-Waltz>Princess Waltz (has an extra game system attached).

It isn't the only, (or maybe even best) example. But that scene really got to me the first time.

I don't watch as many movies nowadays, and even when I do, they don't affect me as much. Except for Toy Story 3......Goddamn that Trash Compactor (or whatever it's called) scene.....

I've never really been touched by a game; but the same goes for movies.
Anime though, has managed to touch me.

The only time I have ever cried watching a movie was...
If you clicked this spoiler tag, you probably already know what happens, so I'll just say: Wow.

The only time I have ever cried playing a game was...
You should know this one as well, but if you haven't played Mother 3 and don't ever intend to, it's when Flint finds out that Hinawa was killed.

Listening to music on its own, though, has made me cry a bunch more times than I'd care to admit publicly.

I still can't really shake off the destroyed lighthouse of Beyond Good & Evil, or the view of Kharak's burning atmosphere in Homeworld. So far, no movie, except maybe Watership Down or Optimus Prime's death in Transformers, moved me in such a way.

Mass Effect 2 grabbed me a couple of times. Tali's loyalty mission was, for want of better words, moving. Also meeting up with old friends was kinda weird, yet it annoyed me how short those sections were.

I haven't really been as moved as much by games as i have been by films, but it has happened. The most recent one for me was Bournes character quest in Fallout new vegas.

[Spoiler.spoiler] His need for attonement really got to me, and facing off aganist hordes of Legionaries to protect a refugee camp got my blood up something fierce. Hell if it was real and not a game, id have armed up and joined him
Red Dead Redemption i also thought was a great game to stir emotions, there are too many in it to list, but i remember

[Spoiler.spoiler]
dueling the woman beater being a particularily satisfying moment. He was one bad spiteful bastard, and it was played excellently by Rockstar to have you intent on killing him.
Also Gears of war two, with dom's wife[Spoiler.spoiler]
i thought dominics wife was handled incredibly well. I used to loath sob/rescue stories, and i the idea for dominics wife being shoehorned in there for the sequel grated on me, as did his complaining about it, but when he found her..... bloody hell.... nicely done, and got me to emote with something i didn't want to
Games, because my interaction with the characters helps me connect with them.

Only the ones with hands

*ba dum tish*

In all seriousness, I had a soft spot for the world ends with you. Well the first part. The second guy ruined it for me and I stopped playing.

There's only been one game section that really got to me like certain films can: the finger-cutting scene from Heavy Rain. As Yahtzee put it "it gripped me by the bellend".

Aside from that though, it's VERY rare for me to get any real deep reaction from a game.
