So, the Xbox One now has no online checks and no DRM. You've probably seen all the other topics on this - I'm specifically curious to see if this news has changed opinions on the console.

Personally, I was going to get one before, but as the changes have resulted in removal of Family sharing and discless play from games you bought on disc, I can't really see much benefit in getting one over the PS4, given that it is still more expensive, and I still don't care for Kinect.

Are the changes good for gamers? Yes. Will this change my purchasing plans? Not a chance.

Whether they did a complete 180 on things or not, we're still talking about a company that was ready to release the most anti-consumer console in history and literally tell a lot of potential customers to go fuck themselves. So while this decision is good, Microsoft does not get a pass from me. They're going to have to work long and hard to win back my trust and every other person who hated the Xbone in it's initial reveals for the same reasons should feel the same way. At this point it's not simply enough to reverse bad decisions and play on the same field as the PS4. They're going to need to seriously step up their game and surpass the PS4 for me to even give them a second look before the generation after this one rolls around.

this.

it really is too little too late
Correct. Apology not fucking accepted. You got caught trying to screw over your customers. This move, however correct for them, is still pathetic. They're still limping back to our doorsteps with their tails between their legs and a $100 overcharge. Piss off.

I'm actually a little pissed off that they think they should get my business after what they tried to pull.

I want to see what the publishers think. That should be interesting.

Nope! PS4 is still $100 cheaper and will have more support from Japanese developers than the Xbox One will. Not to mention that I was more interested in the games sony showed. Unless Microsoft offers an Xbox One exclusive that isn't a shooter or a racing game, I won't have too much interest in the console.

The Xbox One certainly looks more attractive now with these changes; I'll likely pick one up a few years into this coming console generation.

I'm absolutely amazed with Microsoft, and I love that they've realised that they listen to their customers, not the other way around. After such a savage beating, I guess we finally knocked some sense into them.

However, they still tried it, and went all-in. They're still focusing on TV, ignoring indies and moving in directions that I don't care for.

They drove me to the loving arms of Playstation, where I discovered the awesomeness of the PSN+. I'm committed now, at least for this generation. The Xbone still needs to fail, as far as I'm concerned, because the message must be sent loud and clear: do not fuck with our games.

Next generation, I'm all ears.

I actually think this was their true intention the entire time. It is the "New Coke" strategy. Make something bad and hype it up and get word out. People start bitching in mass then bring back the old and get nothing but praise... however it did not work for Coka-Cola and I do not see it working here.

Hell it is probably their way to avoid innovating with the console. To make people think they want the same old same old in their consoles and make them fear change and innovation cause the change could be extremely horrible.

Anyways they still do not support Indies. They will only be releasing the console in limited countries. and the price still sucks. Sony still has my support over them.

I never planned on getting one, and the Kinect being still there and pushing the price up doesn't help. The changes also are too little too late.

In all honesty, yeah. They removed a lot of shit that I found problematic, and they have games that I'm interested in.

So now I will pick one up. Whether that is before or after the PS4 is another matter however.

It's just a pity that the best features of the Xbone (sharing) were intrinsically linked to the biggest downfalls of the system.

I think that introducing those features was less a betrayal of consumers and more an issue of introducing something awesome at a cost few were willing to go along with (DRM). Like Hanlon's razor - Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Great to see them listening to fans anyway, a big and genuine "sorry" would also go along way to get folk back on side.

As for what I think about it now, it's basically a just a more expensive PS4. The family sharing was the best thing (and the DRM associated was the worst thing) the console had going for it. I still think that the potential of the kinnect2 is interesting -> if this were Nintendo's console (who have historically used their gimmicky controls for functional and innovative gameplay) then I would be more excited. I wasn't planning to buy a Xbone/PS4 at launch anyway, so I'm going to be sitting back and taking my sweet time to make a choice.

If I'm honest it was never on the cards that I'd be getting one. I'm a Sony fanboy who spent the first year of the PS3 explaining why actually it made perfect sense and despite the complete lack of logic then, in the long-term my purchasing silliness has actually really paid off for me. I really dig the games Sony put out and I don't care enough about multiplayer for Live to be a draw and whilst the PSN going subscription is a blow, it's a blow that put the console on level with Microsoft (with the advantage that Sony is way more used to sweetening the deal). The PS4 being $100 cheaper is just the icing on the cake

Just because they decided to not stab me in the back this time, doesn't mean that they wont stab me in the box next time.

They have to keep us guessing.

I never had any plan on getting an Xbone. It just never interested me.

BTW, even without the draconian DRM, the Xbone is still $100 more than the PS4, and for what, Kinect?

No thanks.

I'm sorry but the attitude displayed in this video:

Cancelled any thought of purchasing the XBox One. I've never been a fanboy of either side. I'm a gamer and I appreciate what the 360 and the PS3 brought to the table. I've played on both systems and love them to bits.

Great to see Don Mattrick listening to people but its too little FAR TOO LATE.
