I am currently depressed ,and having the analytical mind that I have, I was wondering about the people who have had been as well and how they got through it. I am genuinely looking for help.

You poor soul.
I haven't been depressed myself but I have heard that exercise is a good way to take your mind off things and relieve the depression at least a bit.

Well, I take Zoloft and that helps. The big thing is that I know it's my brain chemistry being off, not my life sucking so that knowledge is comforting. Of course if your life sucks, try to remember that it can always get better.
But it can always get worse, much worse

I was depressed, then i found the Escapist, now everything is better.

In all seriousness I usually have an upbeat attitude, but there was a period of time halfway through high school where I periodically would get sick of all the BS in my life and become extremely antisocial and easily annoyed, that went on and off for the better part of Sophomore and Junior year. Then I realized that everyone had to put up with the same BS or were worse off than me, so I finally got over it.

Still kinda antisocial though, it doesn't bother me to much.

I found smoking to be effective at treating depression. I once put a gun to my head but thanks to smoking I wasn't quite at that trigger pulling point. Smoking also helped this year when my dad died.

Keep your mind otherwise occupied and off your problem if possible. It's not easy, but it's either that or go crazy. I've found excercise to be a great help. Try working out whenever youre feeling down.

Whoever said "No" isn't human.
Or their lives have been really nice to them. Or they're perpetually happy, which may or may not count at "not human."

Of course I've been. Life sucks sometimes. Or a lot of the time. I usually spend a hell of a lot of time on the net or exercising to get over it.

I've found that being thankful helps a lot. Say thankyou when your waitor brings you stuff, think about what you have. Though I've never been clincally depressed, I have had bad days, and that always helped me.

To each their own, but you could argue that smoking is the same putting that gun to your head, just a slower process.
