Greetings, Hi everyone, Where do I begin!
My friend and I went ice fishing today, Saturday morning. Like every other weekend. Unfortunately for this particular day, the day ended with a sour ending. I was handed a violation fine ticket for not de-barbing my set of hooks on one of my ice fishing rod. Guilty as charged I take full blame for that!
Before we start the day fishing every time, we both had procedures, operate who would do what. My friend would drill about 7 to 10 holes around the area of the river. In return like we always do, while doing that, I would drop two of my ice fishing lines down the water, and set bait for his two ice fishing rods for him. When I was about to hand him his second ice rod over to him after baiting it, he said he didn't want to use the rod, he wanted a different rod to use from the bucket 4 ice rods he brought with him to the river. so I said "what would you like me to do with this rod then? He replied "Just drop it to the next hole" which was about 5 feet away from me and 5 feet away from him.
I asked "are you sure about this? He replied "No worries it s family fishing long weekend as a joke." I then said jokingly "okay is that what you are going to tell them, if they come check you? He pretty much laughed it off. I then dropped the line down the ice hole. I then replied back "Probably the Natural Resource Officer might not come by after all, since this heavy snow from last night." After said and done, I attended watching my two rods, five feet away.
After 10 minutes gone by, all of a sudden I saw the natural resource officer pull right up front with his ski-doo. He saw my friend try to pull the rod up but got caught red handed I guess, Hand caught in the cookie jar. I didn't notice until I turned my head to the left and saw him trying to reel the rod up and the natural resource officer ski doo facing towards him. The Officer asked who's 3rd rod is it? With a late answer, my friend said that I dropped the line and he was just reeling it in. Then we were instructed to reel both our lines in to check for De-barbing hooks, Out come turned out one of my ice fishing rod I didn't de-barb my pair of hooks. So the natural resource officer gave us a violation ticket for not de-barbing our hooks. Remember the third rod?
My friend at times rarely very rare fish 3 rods, but he did today. Which in regulation rules your only allowed to fish two rods only. When he told the officer I dropped the line down to the ice hole, but HE reeled it in only. Now this is where the fault comes into play. Who's rod is it?, and who's going to take the fault?. Clearly For myself, I always fish 2 rods by regulation code never 3 for ice fishing. Why break the law, I already get to fish two rods. The Officer asked and I simply pointed which two rods were mine.
The biggest question I have is, who is at fault? Who's fault is it? I could of told the officer my friend simply instructed me to do it and I asked him twice about it, but that wouldn't be nice or considered a good friend would I? instead I thought, best I keep quite and not let the problem escalade bigger, since my friend was trying to pull a BS makeup story. my My mind was saying to Just shut-up and listen to my friends wonderful make believe story.
Have you guys ever seen 48 hours, where when they question the suspects in the interrogation room their stories never match up all because they either talk too much and BS never sticking to one straight story line. Well, While the officer was talking and listening to my friends story, I said to myself okay stick to the story and hope the Officer buys it. The story told just didn't add up. After he told the story, he pretty threw me under the bus, or maybe to get the officer feel sympathy for me, to let them believe I was a new beginner fisherman. letting them miss lead, a miss understanding I did on my part. MISSION FAILED!!Story FAILED TERRIBLY !Ticket served!!!
The officer gave my friend the violation fine ticket for using extra rod and also fine for not de-barbing his hooks, I felt a bit guilty now for not taking half the blame, but I clearly had no intentions using 3 rods nor wanting to fish 3 rods. I did what I was instructed to do. Also told him in the car before we got to our fishing spot, its family fishing long weekend. That was a sign, clear indication right there.
In conclusion, am I at fault as well? Is this my fault too? I clearly asked my friend, "what then would you like me to do with this rod now that I baited for you?" Who's at fault and who's to take the blame for this? Is it best I offer to pay half the extra ice fishing rod violation ticket? Or do I just keep quite and go about's as if nothing happened.
We are good friends. Not being mean, personally I believe his stubbornness got the best in him that day.
Please give me your input and answers, much appreciated.
Thank-you for your time reading this, your words of advice and opinion.
Thank-you! Cheers!
