At work today one of my bosses was saying how their daughter had laughed at them for saying the phrase "If you think you're going out tonight you've got another think coming", saying think instead of thing. When most of us said we would have done the same we turned to polling the staff, which gave us half agreeing with think and half agreeing with think (and those saying think being of an older generation, bar one 65 year old)and the other half saying it was thing. So I'm curious, what do you say, and what is right?

Yeah it's "thing" think would be a grammatical error. I quite often hear a lot of similair mistakes, one of my favourites (that my mum always does, and I love to bring her up on it) is pronouncing "skeleton" as "skelington" always makes me laugh.

It's thing. Think is a verb, it can't be an object in a sentence. Thing is a noun, it can be an object.

I know another common one is saying somethink rather than something. Then again I often use 'summat' instead of 'something' so I've got no right to complain about how people pronounce their words, but to actually believe it's spelt wrongly is pretty stupid.

"Think" just makes no sense at all. How does someone function in society when they can't even tell the difference, even in context, between those two words?

My girlfriend has a habit of mispronouncing "ing" endings as "ink", which seems to be shared by her friends, but she is aware of the correct spelling, I'd never encountered it before her though...

Think is the true owner of the phrase, and it will rise with an even greater army than last time to re-claim the throne of "Another ____ coming"

My money is still on "ThinG" though.

Think is a verb and thus doesn't belong in that part of the sentence sentence

I say Thing but I understand where think stems from, aside mis-hearing.

If you think x, then you've got another thought (think) coming. As in "bastard won't let me do x.

Just an idea

This.

Also I've never heard anyone saying think instead of thing, that's weird.

Edit: Unless of course, if he means that she would have to re-think.
