Just testing the water out of curiosity - what is the Escapist's stance on Homestuck? It's a love-it-or-hate-it sort of web phenomenon, and I'm interested what the ratio is like.

And for the oblivious, it's a basically a very popular webcomic masquerading as a text adventure. It's a genre-blender of fantasy adventure, comedy, and geek-culture satire, presented in a media-blender of images, text, animation, and music. Give it a try. [http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6] It comes with my hearty recommendation. It has a bit of a following.

I'm sorry. I don't know what Homestuck is. Care to elaborate?

EDIT: Upon testing it out, all I can think of is "WTF is this?"

I absolutely loved the first half, then it started getting confusing...

I'm still enjoying it, but I have absolutely no idea what's going on most of the time.

<<<<<<<<I've never heard of it. ::::|

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

[HEADING=3]FAVOURITE. THING. EVER.[/HEADING]
[sub]OMG HEADING 3 IS LIKE 2 SHADES OFF VRISKA TEXT SQUEEEEEEEE[/sub]

I am jacked in SO TIGHT, it is FIRMLY ensconced within my personal mythology.

The thing that disappoints me the most is when people only read the first few pages of it and dismiss it. Yeah, yeah I get it, it starts off slowly and kinda screws around for the first little while or so, and I'll admit that It took a little effort on my part as well, but the rest of the story is incredibly fascinating and well put together and one of the most amazing things I've experienced, it pains me that people are JUST shy of it.

love it. andrew has been getting a bit lazy though
Yeah, lazy. Sure. It's not like he puts out like 4-5 full color, animated pages and pages of accompanying text everyday. Nawww, that would be absurd. And it is really. He seems to be pretty swamped lately but even still he produces about 1000X faster than any other web comic author.
::::D

No one reads homestuck and hates it. The first act is just notoriously awful. I stopped reading it on three occasions during the first 30 pages but once shit hit the fan I is probably my favourite thing on the internet right now.

Ah Homestuck.One of,if not my absolute,favorite webcomics(and i read alot of webcomics)and one of only a handful of forums I actually post to(though not that often like most forums).I check it religiously before I go to bed and first thing I get on my PC.Its an awesome web comic and I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who has not yet read it.I won't lie,it is very slow going but once the kids get into the game(minor spoiler)it picks up and when we met the trolls(again minor spoiler)it really picks up.This webcomic has made me want to buy stuff from their store(2 troll shirts and a hoodie when I get the chance because the shirts tended to sell out fast).

In short:Go to MS Paint Adventures,read Homestuck,you won't regret it(unless you buy stuff from them then you may :p)

Homestuck is amazing. It has a confusing, but still intriguing story, and some truly epic music during those flash sequences when they have "battles". That and it's funny as hell. Takes a while to get into, but once you're in, you're stuck. Homestuck even =D

I love Homestuck so much. D: I wish Andrew would speed up his posts. Hell, even if that means a page a day, rather than a cluster of pages in a week, that'd be cool D: I get so tired of checking the page forty times a day. >.>

Love it, big Homestuck fan. Between the great characters and fantastic sense of humour, I love how Andrew's always trying new approaches and throwing readers for a loop.

I wouldn't say it's awful, it was a nice lead in from Problem Sleuth, but it is unfortunate that it starts so slow, a lot of people trying to get into it lose interest when most of the opening is John dicking around in his room. For reference, the first act was basically when Andrew was still taking user commands and hadn't quite decided that he was going to write one of the most interesting stories in recent memory.

It comes with a very high recommendation from me, but if you're going to give it a shot, try to at least reach " WV: Ascend. [http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=002657]". That's when the true scope of the story becomes apparent and becomes really gripping.

Also, in response to all these "It's cool, but confusing" comments; stick with it. Homestuck has a habit of introducing vague and confusing plot elements, but hte thing is, you're not expected to understand them right away. They're supposed to be entertaining and intriguing, and will be explained in due time.

Well, the scope of the story doesn't really entirely become apparent till Act 5. Then you realize that Homestuck has all the scopes. All of them.

Thanks to Andrew's style of retroactive foreshadowing and constant experimentation, Homestuck's scope is expanding with every page.

"Just read all of it or it'll make no sense" is terribly discouraging for a newcomer, you gotta find a compromise.
