I recently (1 day ago) started playing HoN. Having never played DotA, I have almost no experience at this type of game whatsoever so I decided to join a game that had the "Newbs Only" heading. Expecting a good learning experience and a challenge, I was put in a situation where "raped" ceases to lose meaning. The whole while my entire team was bitching at me (even going so far as to tell me I should go hang myself in the bathroom with an extension cord). I retorted with a simple "christ this is just a game." and "You ragin' bro." (my cod defense). I also explained I was brand new to the game. They still ranted on and on. They eventually booted me. They continued to rant on me at the game select menu. Then I thought of this topic. My question is this "What the fuck drives this people to send such hate to others just because your a newb?"

(Also HoN tips would be helpful hehe...)

Edit:
This has nothing to do with COD!!!!!!!!!!!

Unreasonable anger at a fellow gamer...hmm... It's clearly a diplomacy stunt for Dante's Inferno.

I don't mind them, but if I see they are doing something wrong and I give them advice or something of the like and they continue doing something wrong then I do get a bit annoyed(only if I know it's what they should do and not something that it might be what they should do)

I think newbies should get chances (expecially in a noob-game).

Though you probably should get someone to instruct you first, because it's quite a strategic game.

And I can't really give tips, though. My brother's pretty good at DotA and HoN, but I've never played HoN and only a little DotA.

[sub] I suck at it[/sub]

I don't really mind people not doing well. But if they ignore the objective, it's an unforgivable sin. Especially in CoD, whereby someone camping beside the objective, but not completing it, happens far too often and leads to much raeg and game-losing.

the problem with HON is because it is a DOTA remake almost to the letter, that almost everyone who plays it isn't a noob and played DOTA religiously.

My best advice would be to play unranked games where losing doesn't matter or just drop it because either you love the game or you don't.

that or try to find someone that is willing to teach you, some people like to help but good luck with that.

As to why people hate noobs it's because people hate losing and noobs can cause you to lose. I've lost quite a few rounds of MW2 because my team mates went 2 and 20 regardless of the fact that I'm 30 and 7 or better. It's frustrating when you know your good and you get destroyed. However in this case they probably just wanted a scape goat because they weren't very good.

That ruined SOCOM Confrontation for me. Played about three hours and got sick of people bitching at me for not having the maps memorized. Got kicked from almost every match it was ridiculous.

I like noobs though, they make good cannon fodder.

I have never played DotA, HoN, or LoL. It just looks like a ripoff of WC3 to me so I don't get the point. Anyway, I'm here to address your question.

People like to think that they have control over the outcome of a game. Logically speaking, if you have no control over whether you win or lose, what's the point in playing?

The fact that you are sucking so bad that it causes your entire team to lose, takes away that illusion for them that anything they do matters.

That is, of course, >implying that they didn't also suck and were simply scapegoating their suckitude at you.

Could somebody explain the acronyms? It just feels like you're throwing stock options at me.

But ultimately, people feel superior over little things, and when you feel superior over somebody you then become intolerant of them. this intolerance leads to frustration, and then you get your ragers there.

I love how there's only 1 positive awesome in favour of the n00bs.

Well. I'm hardly one to complain to noobs, because (In some instances) I am one. I suck at RTS's and DotA. So I know what it's like to get bitched at by DotA pros.

For fuck sakes people, LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "Newb" and "Noob"!

"Newb" is short for "newbie". As it implies, a "newbie" is new to a game and willing to learn. They should be treated with respect and nurtured, not bullied by the "Pros".

"Noob", or more commonly, "n00b", is a corruption of the above, originating during the days of text-based online chat. A "n00b" is an asshole, usually also new to the game, but they refuse to learn. "n00b" now covers any asshole, from Griefers to Pros that insult Newbs.

n00bs should die. Newbs should not.

DO YOU ALL UNDERSTAND NOW?
What about nubs

Oh DotA players are gaping assholes and are probably the most aggressive with the put-downs of any gamer. I highly suggest not getting into that crap

DotA and its breed of games are a plague on mankind in the worst way. They say that anonymity turns people into crazy assholes, but it pales in comparison to the asstard machine that is DotA. While trolls may be trying to hate on people on the internet, they normally won't have much ammunition to do it with. Video games, on the other hand, let people know exactly how good people are, and normally the bad players get insulted or they attack the good players due to anger and the need to defend their ego. DotA sends this to retarded levels by making noobs able to easily give the enemy a huge advantage. So, while you may feed some kills to a team to make them win faster in an FPS deathmatch, in DotA you die several times and they get too invincible for your team. And, man, does that piss people off. And the whole first blood thing doesn't really do a great job of keeping it hidden either...
For these reasons I've basically become more terrified of DotA than any other game, even the survival horrors.

As for tips: Cowardice. They can't kill you if you run from them every time. There's also a phenominon I call "tagging," where the enemy goes after the same person over and over again for easy kills for experience and such.

It depends on what type of noob.

To quote Ctrl-Alt-Del:

"Today in the Gamer's Glossary, we are going to cover the meanings of "Noob" and "Newb". Only two letters apart, but with very different meanings. "Newb" or "Newbie" is a term used to describe someone who is inexperienced at a game."
"Newbs should be cared for and nurtured tenderly so that they may grow into valuable, skilled players."

"A Noob however, is a harsh and insulting term for a player that has no clue what he is doing, but won't admit it. Noobs deserve our wrath for sure, but try not to be TOO harsh for it is a proven fact that they will never get laid. Ever."
