The situation is simple, i am refusing to buy any games my friend recommends for a while as the last few i have bought have been a massive disappointment to me (Deus Ex HR, RDR). So Dead Island came out in the UK yesterday, he tells me i have to rush to buy it but following the 4 hours of DX:HR I have played since I bought it I have decided to hold off until I can find it cheaper. The thing is that even though the games I mentioned above have got stellar reviews I cant get into them to the same extent that he can.

Tonight the Dead Island debate got fairly heated with me arguing that DX:HR has shown me that I just dont like open world games that much and would probably only be buying it for the CO-OP which I doubt I will get £40 worth of play out of if I dont enjoy it. Eventually the argument ended with him telling me im retarded for not liking the games despite the awesome reviews. Im sure Dead Island is probably a fantastic idea but it is not my cup of tea and I cant seem to explain that to my friend without getting laughed at for trying to be "indie" because i have disliked every AAA title he has suggested.

Anyone had this happen and got a happy resolution or am I doomed to constantly over-exaggerated arguments over games I couldn't care less about.

DE:HR is not an "open world" game.

Games, like films, like music, like art...run to individual tastes. You may be in a minority for not liking popular or critically adored media, but you're not "wrong".

Unless of course you don't like "The Wire", in which case GTFO.

Just tell him to grow up.

Sorry, but if somebody is so ignorant and childish they think that their opinion is "right" and that you are "retarded" for having different tastes, then no logical argument will be able to disuade them, because they will dismiss and ignore what ever you say.

I'm hoping that you and your friend are quite young, because if this friend of yours is an adult and he's THAT stupid, then I really pity him.

Pick a game that you like and he dislikes and tell him he's a gimp for not liking it, then bring it back to the point that you dislike some of the games he enjoys because of those nifty things called opinions. It's an argument you will win, unless of course he takes the "yeah well you're gay" route, in which case laugh in his face. Then, skin his corpse whilst he's asleep, wait until Halloween and go to his parents house wearing his face.

I agree with this man's opinion, but only part of it. I'll leave you to decide which part.
