Poll: How Do You Feel About Zoey?

Playing Left 4 Dead online, I have seen one situation happen over and over again, and I'm sure my fellow Survivors can relate. There are three people in the lobby, and you just need one more to start the game. Someone joins, but as soon as they see that they have to play as Zoey, they disconnect. For some reason, it seems that Zoey is always the last character to get picked, and I often hear players complaining that they are "stuck playing as the girl." So, my fellow Escapists, tell the truth...do you quit rather than play as Zoey? What do you that that this trend says about men, games, and gaming culture? To the ladies out there, do you prefer to play as Zoey?

I for one will play as Zoey. Not only do I think that she is a positive portrayal of females in a male driven industry, but I want to get the game rolling and kill some zombies.

Edit: I am especially interested in hearing from the people who don't like to play as Zoey. I started this thread so we could hear what everyone has to say on the matter. This is a pretty open-minded forum, so please share your thoughts!

I wouldn't care. It's a skin. It's like choosing between destroyer-robot and Gordon Frohman. They don't really do anything apart from look different. It's as superficial as skin colours. -Moreso because they're animated.

Do you play on XBL or PC? I ask because I play on Xbox Live, which is notorious for its less cultured patrons, while supposedly PC gamers are the contemplative, master gaming race.

I don't get that problem and understand it less. I've played left 4 dead with a team of "manly" men versus two girls and they served us so badly i could swear god had come down from heaven just to rip our testies through our eyes. Strangley though neither of them ever played zoey.

I own the Xbox version, but I've put some time into the PC version as well. Maybe I was just fortunate enough to never come across these people, but it's difficult to fathom that people not wanting to be Zoey is a common issue.

People actually care? I'd rather play as Zoey, she's my favourite character, I often pull out the "save me, I'm the last female" card on my friends when I'm in trouble. If I can't get Zoey, then whatever, I'll just play as whoever is left.

When I'm feeling about Zoey I usually start at the top and work my way down...

Yeah in lobbies I'll actually ALWAYS choose Zoey before Francis or Bill, I just find her to be more likeable. But I can't resist being Louis for some reason if he's up for grabs, pills here!

I've never played L4D, but in RE, I'd rather play as the girl. It's not that I want to be a girl. It's more of feeling a connection between you and your character rather than characters with eachother. Maybe I just like to break down stereotypical gender roles, like when I turn my armor pink in Halo 3 and everyone gives me crap about it.

I know that there is an achievement for that...I think it is called Dead Giveaway. That brings up a good point though. When I play as one of the male characters, I find myself more prone to look out for the person playing as Zoey (even if I know they are a male). I'll provide her with cover, pick her up if she goes down, or maybe even give her my peelz.
