I just want to know how many bad games does it take for you to give up on a series? For example lets say they decide to release a Uncharted 3 but its sucks even though Uncharted 2 was incredible, would you give up it if they decided to make Uncharted 4 or would you still continue to love the series in hope for a better game? Sometimes games take several bad games before a good one comes out like Sonic ( Let me know when a good one gets here ).

So whats your limit?

1 bad game in a series and it's gone. As for that Hedgehog from Hell, it shall never get a chance.

Two games for me, first one is always 'oh, they messed up', second one to verify that it wasn't a freak occurrence.

OR 5 years. If a company releases one new game in the franchise every 5 years, and a game is bad, I give up on it there and then. Screw waiting 10 years for a decent sequel (I'm looking at you, Mario).

Call of Duty showed me that I have way to much patience for shitty games then I thought I ever had.

Generally, if there is a bad game in a series I just tend to ignore it. And also, the Sonic rush series (along with the DS version of Sonic colours, haven't played the wii one) are quite good IMHO.

never had a megadrive then? or a dreamcast or gamecube for that matter, the adventure series were the best of the 3D games by a long margin.

I think you should add "cautious optimism" to the poll. I will stop purchasing the games at one bad game and then keep an eye on the series. I will check on reviews and make sure the next game is actually good instead of iffy. Like Devil May Cry series, the first one was a blast. Second one was just...iffy. Checked out reviews for the next in the series and am a happy camper once again!

Depends really. If its the first game in the series then it has to make a good impression. If it doesn't and I'm not keen on it then its going to greatly affect my judgement when it comes to purchasing the sequel. However if its a series I'm already well into and maybe the third game lets me down... I'd just pass that down as a bad sequel and still look forward to the fourth. However if the third, fourth and fifth have let me down then I'm going to be extremely cautious when it comes to the sixth.

Normally 2, but if a series that I previously dropped puts out a new game I usually look into it to see if it's recovered.

I cleverly don't care. Because I'm a beast.

I'll play anything with any number of bad games in the series just because I am -that- awesome. You never know when the series will bounce back, or what cool ideas they had in their bad games.

Considering the only series ive got more than 3 games in are pokemon and fifa its hard for me to say
Pokemon - never got bad, i just don't have a DS
Fifa, gave up on it after 2 games in a row which were pretty much the same (08, and 09, thats not to say bad, just no real change that warrants and extra £40 for a new game) borrowed 10, seemed the same too.

It kind of depends. I still stick with Halo, even though I don't think any of the games have ever quite reached the heights of the first one, because it can still deliver a fun experience, whereas I probably wouldn't go back to Prey (if they ever released the second game) and that was only after one game.

Other things like Tomb Raider were tough to judge. I didn't really like Tomb Raider after number III, but went back after the reboot and liked it a lot more. And even though I hate the Harry Potter games since number 4 I'm still going to get the last two because by this point it would feel like quitting if I didn't.

So yeah, generally I'd stick with a series for at least 2 bad games (as with the original TR series) but it can vary wildly.

The year: 2005

The game: [unspeakable]

The level of excitement: catastrophic

The level of disappointment: soul shattering

Friend: Dude, did you see in EGM? Shadow is getting his own game!

Me: I know! He has a gun and motorcycle! IT'S SO WICKED.

Let's go to the store at midnight and buy it!

Me: Fuck Yeah!

Me: No, no. No nononono. Nnnnnnooooooooooooooo!

Friend: What... I.....I....Sega....

Friend: I think the game just spoke something in demonic tongue to me....in my mind
