I'm curious; the Escapist community has a large percentage of folks who are concerned with fostering and developing gaming as a legitimate artform, but how many are actually making a commitment to the industry?

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to be offensive or calling anyone out on anything, I'm really just curtious.

Also, this is for people who are realistically active in seeking a job in the industry. It isn't for high school kids who are saying they're going to be game developers or whatnot; it's also not for post-secondary school students like me who PLAN on becoming game developers. This is for people who:

a) Are in a specialized school for a career in the game industry
b) Waiting to get in to one of this schools
c) Has finished a diploma/degree from one of these schools
d) Is seeking a job and has at least one or more interviews for an industry position

We really should have a game dev forum, just to filter them out of the advice, job hunting and gaming discussion areas.

Also, what if you're e) a game dev?

Blah, I'm not seeking it. If I had the chance to join be part of a storyboard I wouldn't turn it down though...

I'm still in college right now, and it's not a game design college. So I'm not actively seeking a job in game design, but I hoping to get one after I graduate possibly, although I am open to other jobs, but it'd really be nice to get in the game industry.

I don't think I'm qualified for any game-making position. I'll be moving to Bethesda's backyard and would love to be a tester or voice actor but I don't have the degrees that would keep developers from throwing my resume in the recycle bin.

I got a master's from The Guildhall at SMU in Dallas, and I've been working as an artist in the game industry for a little over a year and a half. It took about four months of extra portfolio building and job hunting until I got my first game dev job (minus a one-month experience at Halliburton right after I graduated, lol).

Developers don't look for degrees, they look for experience and skill. I've heard people say that they throw out applications and refuse to consider portfolios from art/game school graduates, but never have I heard someone speak of having a particular degree as a requirement. As an artist, anyway.
